After years and years of wanting to go head to head, the opportunity finally presented itself. 2 of the most celebrated HBCU percussion sections(bitter rivals might i add) went face to face in a drumline battle that has been anticipated and overdue. Now let the debates in the comment box commence, any inappropriate comments will be deleted.

Im a big ncat fan but dam but daaaaam scsu sounded like there cadences sounded like they were recorded in a studio lol thats how clean they were

I'm a former member of Sudden Impact (BCU) (hence my screen name), so i've got no pony in this race...that being said, SCSU SMOKED Cold Steel, lol. Cold Steel too damn busy worrying about they swag man. I mean don't get me wrong, both had there low points but I felt like SCSU's was just cleaner. They were more attentive to detail and small things and therefore looked and sounded cleaner. And clean trumps EVERYTHING.

Cold Steel was solid as a whole but BBI snares ate them up. But I like choppy snares and Cold Steel wasnt playing anything past a paradiddle-diddle and a few cheez-it. I gotta give to the BBI their drum tech got them boys right!

South Carolina is an almost core style line. They're tough because the music they play is technically challenging. NCAT is more of a show line so they will give slot of visual appeal. I will say BBI got for the sheer fact that resembled core with a hint of visual entertainment for example. The basses ran splits and pretty tough ones that no one payed attention to. And the quits were tight although I expected more seeing how great one of the people I know are. Both did good but SC State got caught my ear.

Actually growing up watching the Marching 101 as a kid, some of the stuff BBI played during the Sarjeant era has been infused into some of the newer stuff we hear from BBI today, you hear bits and pieces here and there so Mr. Givens knows what he's talking about. You might not hear it as much here, though there is some, but every year after the homecoming game back at the bandhall when the alumni mix in with current drumline you definitely see and hear the old & new material blended.

this is to the CS instructor, how is this a "complete waste of time"? this is something plenty of people have been wanting to see for years! this was put up 3/31/13 today is 6/17/14... 27,002 people have watched this video. From the outside looking in, as a spectator through the screen, yes it does not seem like a waste of time for a battle everyone has been waiting to see. But as a Bongo who was there playing, at some point it was a waste of time. For one: We were supposed to be gone a long time ago but people started running off with the mouth so we blocked up. Eventually, the going back and forth about who's cadence was who's and who was playing marching cadences, etc is what made it a waste of time. While it was all fun it started becoming a drawn out thing with everyone getting over emotional about it. The fun was slowly being dragged out of it, so I would agree it was a waste of time in those moments. Even some of us from both lines felt like this. You had to be there to feel that. We would've gone all damn night if they let us. Both lines were great in their own ways at that time.

SCSU takes the win. They had more chops, cleaner sound, & badder cadences. CS just had visual looks. They played shoots people!!! High schools drumlines play this cadence all the time!! All drummers know CS took this loss.

I'm prouda DA BONGO BROs! And for the person who's proclaiming "waste of time"? ALL MUSICIANS DESERVE THEIR DUE IF THEY PUT IN THE WORK...NONE ARE BETTER! WE CAN ALL BE MORE TECHNICAL THAN ONE ANOTHER...BUT NONE CAN PROCLAIM WHAT THEY DON'T OWN...love both groups, equally! THAT'S WHAT BINDS US! KEEP...IT...CLEAN!!!

I think these are two of the best drumlines, especially in the HBCU community. BBI and Cold Steel have two different styles. BBI has more overall technically different material, where as A&T has more entertainment. Both snare lines can chop. Anyone who thinks A&T doesnt chop, needs to go watch all their videos. Both get respect from me. And if they both respect each other, why can't we do the same.

I'm a more of a technical and uniformity fanatic...so of course two of my favorite lines are Sudden impact of Bethune Cookman University and MDF$ of Norfolk State University...I call it a draw they both had their moment and as well both of them could clean it up a little but good job ladies and gents.

SCSU's BBI won this without question. My point about CS that I've said again and again has been proven in this clip. Take away all the fluff (jumping around, running, jumping jacks, and cartwheels) and CS is just an average drum line. They have to do all that extra stuff to get noticed, BBI doesn't have to do all that because they literally let their sticks speak for them. No disrespect they are entertaining but, CS get their acclaim from their tricks and not their sticks.

BBI had a few rough spots but overall from a technical standpoint they won this battle hands down but CS was a bit funkier. But it was a very good battle of two very good drumlines

Man Cold Iron bass line got violated in every way and the snares was weak to say the least. Diddles were sloppy/muddy. NCAT drumline need to go back to the basics. 8 or 16 on the hands warmup lol. SCSU clearly got this one.

Great battle! Never heard NCSU before today. I didn't think it was another drumline that was as clean as Cookman until now. Don't get me wrong, A&T was clean, but NCSU was cleaner.

SCSU got this one even though NCAT have more grooves..SCSU was cleaner even though they was smaller and the tonals held it down. SCSU tonals beat NCAT whole section by themselves..in my opinion

It's apples and oranges, really... BBI's got A&T on technique and clarity, but Cold Steel grooves... HARD. Cool to see this kind of variety in HBCU lines.

scsu was more technical(as a collegiate drumline should aim towards)...better transitions...got to mess wit Tim Greene's music lol but im sure that it was up to a crowds decision ncat would always win ...always....overall it just depends on the viewer...whether like that deep south ..groovy..flashiness or you like DCI type mixed in

NCAT has two mixtures of regional sounds Meac and Swac...like Nccu and Famu...it's kinda hard to appreciate their style...to me, they have no technically at all what so ever..on the other hand...scsu have a mixture of styles as well..meac and dci...like Nsu and Bcu...but the show band style shows a little more...just by cleaness and technically, Scsu won hands down but Nsu would beat the breaks off of both bands!!!

Scsu- a little flat in the beginning but picked it up towards the end. Cold Steel- Great line, a lot of explosivness and showmanship. The only thing that I personally think that cold steel can do without is their tenor drums. Or move them away from the bassline in formation because the sound doesn't compliment the basses at all. It was a battle between two great lines that I've been a fan of for a decade now. I think that this was a tie.

Tim greene bring u some music 7/8 time signature and give u that off beat jazz type feel to it.....we been doing the music similar to CS' s music since middle transitioning to high school. BBI can compete wit either side HBCU or D1, dci etc.CS got talent! but not the music to push to that next level....chop then groove is what I was brought up on we speak wit drums not moves.

CS is entertaining. However when it comes to playing drum, they are really dirty. Them cadences are too simple for this level of play. Sounds like an average high school section.

From the view of a percussionist, SCSU executed properly and won this, but its gone always be "people" in the crowd who's gonna go with NC&T simply because they were more entertaining.

simply cause we had already destroyed doa at the ncat and nccu game and on top of that came into they city/school and gave an unbelievable show. we had nothing to prove against a line who everybody already knows we're better than.

@furfive ur speaking on the snares u have to look at the whole section its not a&t ft the snares nor is it bbi ft the snares which sectiin sound better presenting there music and that's all u can say is that our visual where dirty come on we chop judge on playing if anything first

Both lines did well. This is the best I seen Cold Steel. They showed me they are more than just stunts. With that being said, it was a mixed bag for me. SCSU seemed to play harder material, but A&T had better visuals. SCSU wasn't as clean, but A&T did too much of the "bad boy swag" for my taste which threw me off. Overall if they meet up again in a random parking lot, they need to charge money.

that last cadence was ok but over all i say cold steel this is why they kept my attention they were cleaner except a few hit/misses they were clean this is with out a doubt not one of bbi's best challenges and to mention those pass runs as if it was clean is a joke im unaffiliated with nca&t but have a few friends who marched scsu including a relative there now i want to see nca&t vs Bcu or pv vs scsu or vice versa great job but could be better on both sides

Ok I have no dog in this fight so this is totally unbiased, but I give the slight edge to BBI. Both could work on some stuff like BBI snares need to focus more on making sure thief visuals on snare are tighter, and cold steel setup is killing their sound. Don't need all those tenors. Their basses have intricate grooves that need to be heard and you just can't hear them. BTW, whoever said CS couldn't chop you lied flat out. The boys can play. No hating just calling like I see it

tbh, im not quite sure who won. its hard to tell because to me,neither side gained an inch until coldsteel's last cadence; pretty dope! but technically, SCSU had more chops to me. so idk but it was a great battle all in all.

If its not SWAC, its hard ass hell to look and listen to these drumlines play on these aluminum pan/ popcorn sounding instruments. Upgrade/ change/ and shift the atmosphere.... Nice rudiments but Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... Ok this my video nd I have yet to comment on it but I will now. Overall victory goes to scsu hands down. Let's go section by section.....scsu snares could have been cleaner but they wasn't dirty like ncats...the multiples....ncats clearly screwed up that solo where as you didn't hear a screw up in scsu quints....tenors, do I even have to compare...tonal basses nd drops, though you can hear ncats tonals better bcuz of how I was positioned, those bongo basses raped them
