5:53 Dr. Lin Ye Tang is one of my favourite SCTV characters. He’s right up there with Pirini Scleroso, Bob & Doug, Count Floyd and Guy Caballero (his wheelchair but always cracks me up).

Still the funniest comedy show ever. Genius cast and writers.
@jzbass7211 ай бұрын
5:44-6:52: The entire Lin Ye Tang/Johnny LaRue sequence has never not made me laugh helplessly. “Those FCC varmints are real polecats!”, “I’m not drunk, and I’m not gay either!”, along with Candy’s casual hand clap, and Thomas’s drawing of the gun are just off the charts hilarious. Two comedic geniuses of the highest order.

I love the low-budget look/sound of SCTV …brings me back to those carefree days of the early-mid 80’s. I would watch SCTV at a friend’s house back then …it had a family-friendly comedic flavor all it’s own. (When you had SCTV & Mid-South Wrestling …what else did you need?!)

I remember a tv show called Branded starring Chuck Connors about a deserter. Real lame theme song. There was also a show with Darren McGavin and Burt Reynolds called Riverboat. The great thing about KZfaq is that you can watch the old TV shows thatSCTV Lampooned.
@JW-cr7qo5 жыл бұрын
When I was a kid we used to sing a parody of the theme to Branded. "Stranded, on the toilet bowl, what do you do when your stranded and you don't have a roll... to prove your a man you must wipe it with your hand...stranded on the toilet bowel, thats what you do when your stranded and you dont have a roll."

I wonder how many here commenting have watched "Whats My Line"? You will get the jokes even more. Episodes are posted on KZfaq. Some are pretty good but, as a kid when I watched it, it was pretty bad. Nothing else to watch I guess except soaps, back when there were 5 channels, if that. Sick days weren't so fun back then.

How did they get such megastars to host this?
@spliceoncharlie5 жыл бұрын
When they made this show back in the late 70's and early 80's none of these people were megastars. SCTV is what launched these people into megastar status.
@matthewl40675 жыл бұрын
@@spliceoncharlie It's a joke, I'm pretty sure. The characters are megastars within the context of the show. At least they seem to think they are.
@spliceoncharlie5 жыл бұрын
@@matthewl4067 We are not talking about the skits performed in this video but the actual "real life" actors and actresses who were on SCTV back in the late 70's and early 80's. When these skits were performed on SCTV none of these people were known outside of the SCTV television show. One of John Candy's first big movies was "Stripes" and that did not release until 1981 and he was just a side character. They did not start making their breakout movies until a few years later.
@matthewl40675 жыл бұрын
@@spliceoncharlie What I'm saying is that I'm pretty sure fjvideo was making a joke about the characters, and not talking about the actors. I'm well aware that none of these people were big at the time. :)
