Rick Moranis imitated everyone, including Don Pardo!

I love how they turned the melancholy sax from *SNL* into a wacky, stuttering, deadly accurate imitation of Ornette Coleman.

Pretty accurate and brutal skewering of SNL.

Richly deserved, for how much it has sucked since its creation. Lorne Greene is way better than Lorne Michaels anyhow.

This was such much better than late 70s early 80s SNL!

That's what Thursday Night Live was making fun of. And even I found it funny, despite being an SNL fan and finding a lot of attempts at making fun of SNL cringey or way off. Nobody makes fun of SNL but this show and SNL itself. MADtv tried, but failed, and the Simpsons version where Krusty the Clown hosts Tuesday Night Live and Bart comments that he misses Joe Piscopo did have some good jabs at early 1990s SNL, but the overall Simpsons episode was about Bart pretending he's a homeless kid so he can get a better father and Lisa beating her addiction to a 1-900 number. It wasn't about the behind-the-scenes drama and insanity of hosting a long-running weekly sketch show.

Joe Flaherty was the flagship of SCTV. Entire cast was brilliant, though.

A human may be able to carry a flag, but can a human be a ship? Perhaps being a standard-bearer would be a better descriptor?

@@QuadMochaMatti Perhaps, but since you understood my creative analogy, and most likely everyone else with half a brain would, I'm not too worried about it.

Good episode, season 3 was better than I thought. The SNL satire was spot on.

It was also a parody of Fridays, ABC's version of SNL that had a lot more drug humor than SNL did at the time and was considered funnier than SNL when SNL's humor took a nosedive during its sixth season (here, they're mocking SNL's humor during its fifth season, where it was leaning on a lot of shock humor and everything seemed to be longer and more drawn-out. It was still good, but, at the time, a lot of people thought SNL was going to end there. Crazy, I know).

@@canaisyoung3601 It really wasn't a parody of Fridays at all. It was a direct parody of SNL , hence the name "Thursday Night Live" ,

@@positivelastaction3957 It is so like Fridays. Rick Moranis' announcer character is based on Jack Burns, though he sounds like Don Pardo (who was SNL's long-running announcer until he died before the start of SNL's 40th season). Plus, a lot of critics and detractors of Fridays will tell you that the sketch where there's too many people and a lot of swearing is basically Fridays in a nutshell because it's trying to be like a more shocking SNL.

@@canaisyoung3601 The fake pre-emption though is definitely taken from SNL (it would later be done by You Cant Do That on Television).
