Patrick has not been rowing too long, he can handle the single, but in order to build speed, things need to change.

Flexibility in the lower back, hips and hamstrings is the main limitation here.

Hi Aram, like the previous video, Patrick is sculling his catch in and his shins are past vertical at the catch. Again humbly suggest raise his shoes one position. needscheck. I'm wondering if it's extensive use of linear ergs that are influencing the catch issues. What do you think?

What stretches would you encourage to avoid taking the catch with the body like in the video?

Lower back and hamstring stretches, also strengthening core muscles could help.

Also making sure your ankles/calves are stretched. The guy here doesn't seem to have that problem (although it's hard to see the feet), but tight ankles can cause you to get up on your toes at the catch which causes instability due to the higher point of force on the footplate (compared to your center of gravity). It also might cause an inability to get the hang/suspension/connection due to subconscious fear of straining the Achilles tendon or its supporting muscles, therefore putting less press on the footplate and generating more upwards rotation with the upper body. Usually in this case you can see the legs finish after the upper body.
