That line is solid in all sections. This is definitely a drum line who will be in the eye for top honors. Possibly 1st all around this year. It will be competitive, but SCV..... Wow.

Nobody is going to point out that Brandon Olander is Center snare for BD and Bryce Gardner is Center snare for SCV these two have truly flourish since their beginning of DCI

Hey Group, have you noticed that the intonation of the line actually has resonance. The only line thus far that has pitch clarity rendering a true characteristic tone quality of each section.

Steven, very true Paul remains to be a promulgator of drum line for the new millennium. He is now what Fred was is the 70's, Float the late 70's, and Hannum in the early 80's. He is truly an amazing teacher, composer/arranger, and technician.

Oh, in addition; they practice the point of the movement , how to play. I'm so very glad that Paul has not bowed forth to the notion that drum lines have to dance to be contemporary. Thank heaven that someones head is still on straight!

Calling BD or SCV in perc isn't exactly a ballsy call. It's like a 95% chance one of them gets it. Edit: originally I had drums instead of perc but changed it because the dude below called me out.

Might end up being the Cavaliers. They came in 2nd last year and they are smoking this year. Granted this is a Rennick line so they sound crazy already. Also, percussion is pit and battery, so the pit for SCV better smoke the cavies pit to get it. BD isn't that high imo yet. They're good though.

I know people are always sick of the same people winning. But there's a reason for that. Right now SCV is the cleanest drumline again. I just hope the judges don't have the "someone else should get a chance-" ittis. They're so good that they have to be completely unbelievable to get a fair shot.

Adam Brown Yup! Watching this line has ruined me. I try watching other drum lines and find myself comparing them to SCV, but this is by far the most interesting and complex book on tour this year. And its pretty clean ! And without all the arm flailing and modern dance interpretive moves. Paul Rennick should get a Pulitzer for writing this.

Mike L Prefer Cadets writing (style and content) and agree that it’s difficulty his up there with SCV, but Cadets aren’t nearly as clean as Vanguard.

Every players hands are doing something odd and different from one another but it doesn't affect the clarity of their playing one bit. Their balance in dynamics and tone from player to player is impeccable which is what actually counts and the battery staff has a perfect understanding of this. It's nice being able to listen to a group that has the right idea of musical value in sound production

This is the best SCV corps I've ever seen and they are going to crush the record books this year, not only the drumline but the whole corps (and I saw 1999 and marched in 2001/2002)

Ok DCI, you all have to get these costumes under control. It looks like someone got high and said "i wonder what stormtroopers wear as pajamas?" I can live with Phantom Regiment. It looks sort of cool considering. I can live with Cavaliers cause it still resembles the Cavaliers. But the rest of you have lost your minds. (Also, best Drum line by far.)

SCV is definitely the cleanest and sounds better than any line, but... after seeing other lines in person recently, I’ve realized how hard the music is and how amazing everyone is at playing. You don’t realize the difficulty of the music until you try and play it yourself, or until you see it in person. I was so much more impressed after doing so. The point is, I now care less about who wins, and more about how well everyone plays. And from what I’ve seen, this is a great season.

Paul Rennick, probably my favorite writer of all time! Seems like a lot of other lines are playing a lot of quarter notes, and Paul seems to be innovating the way lines are playing now a days.

There were female snares back when I marched BD in 84 (we had one...Carla Azar)...it's nothing new...go for it. Bluecoats had a lady from Japan in their snare line last year as well. I think the only position in the ENTIRE corps BD has never had a lady on was bass 5, and that's probably only due to the size of the drum, not ability.
