In this video I tear down a Symmetricom GPS disciplined oscillator (GPSDO) which I plan to modify to be my 10MHz frequency reference in my lab. We take the hood off the device and explore the PCB and operation before powering the unit up to test it's functionality and suitability for my purposes. #ElectronicsCreators

Beware, if this is from a telecom application, the power supply is likely a -48VDC (positive ground) power supply. Don't know if the chassis is referenced to ground or is isolated. Most telecom gear is operated in a positive ground environment.

Good video. Quite a nice hackable unit you scored there. I really enjoy time/frequency stuff and I never would have seen this unless I saw your channel through the EEVBlog forum. YT ranking and search results are so skewed toward popular channels...

Could one pull off the NMEA string of the position, so that as well as serving up 10MHz for my instruments, my desktop computer will provide location-based services that aren't 800km away at some arbitrary ISP node? Ditto RTC to set my clocks.

Did this receiver handle the 2019 GPS week number rollover gracefully?

Sadly not. But the frequency output is still accurate. I could recalculate the time and date from the serial output, but the unit might be retired from timekeeping

@@sdgelectronics If you have a dump of the ROMs, I'd love to make an attempt to fix the WRNO bug... reverse engineering GPS firmware to fix WRNO bugs has become my weird hobby.
