Unless you actually care about competitive integrity and finding out who the best team really is. A best of 1 basketball tournament doesn't do that whatsoever. Basketball is a high variance game which is why the NBA runs best of 7s and even then it's still not always objectively clear who the better team is. Best of 1s are so dumb in almost anything that's supposed to be considered competitive.

Same. Whole neighborhood went ape while I was washing my car. I don't follow basketball but I immediately knew what happened. Also helped that the guy across the street started yelling "Aztecs win! Aztecs win!"

That shot had everything! Transition, dribble down and back out...mid range with ball release under 1 second. Hand in the face. Nothing but net!! Just as clutch as you can get. Young man had composure!

This reminded me of the game earlier in the season that San Diego State won in OT against Colorado State. I had a few thousand on SDSU, and I was so close to cashing out, but eventually I just stopped caring and decided to ride it out. Games like that reminded me of how effective defense can keep teams in games.

part of the problem is roster size. It’s easier for smaller programs to have competitive basketball teams cause 1 or 2 guys can totally change a team. with football you need a lot more talent

Nah it’s easier in college basketball cause there is ballers in every conference but it’s harder to find more talent in the smaller FBS schools. Basketball rosters are only like 12-15 so it’s easier for lesser programs to get ballers

The difference is body contact with injuries. Even at your best you couldn't take the hits.

Football unfortunately cant and wont work like that. The top programs get all their positions filled with top tier size and talent. Smaller programs just dont wow athletes in like that so they get the second pickings and it makes a huge difference. The top 10 college football teams would 99/100 times beat a team outside top 50. Don't count early week "upsets" either. You cant rank teams properly in college the first couple of weeks.

Awful coaching by Dusty May Goldin couldn't hit free throws, rebound, or play defense. Davis threw the ball away at two critical junctures of the game. That's what you get when you recruit unathletic bigs and low-IQ ballhandlers.

FAU's defense was on LOCKDOWN. No team on the planet could not have defended that any better. No man was open. No man was able to cut to the basket. Shot was contested. That was just a good shot by a good shooter and it went in.

I know some may consider this year as a 'weak' year for the championship, but I love it. March Madness is living up to the name, so much madness this year! FAU was so close, but also congrats to SDSU in making it all the way to the championship!

San Diego State is far from weak. Offensively they’re relatively average but they’re experienced, big, scrappy and can challenge a variety of different teams til the final whistle.

Reminds me of Michael Jordan’s shot against Georgetown. Would love to see this kid blossom into an NBA star. You can tell he has more on the offensive end to show us next season, and he has the same humble, unselfish, and hard working demeanor that Kawhi had at SDSU. The Butler did it!!

Textbook...squared up his upper and lower body, got exceptional lift from his legs, rose up from his toes, and the form: the left hand guide, and the coup de gras..how he used his right shooting arm to separate the shot from the guide hand, propel the seemingly shot-put like release, the wrist flip at the end....from lift to landing this shot was perfection. And all off the LEFT HAND dribble!

Fans always want to cheer for the underdogs in the beginning of the tournament and now many sports analyst want to complain that there are no top 3 seeds remaining. There was one sports commentator that stated that we have 4 junk teams remaining and the tv ratings would be at an all-time low. (What a low life reporter himself) This has been my favorite tournament of all time and it is nice seeing some new blood getting the spotlight now!!

San Diego State has a decent reputation due to being a somewhat regular tournament presence and having their moments being a top 25 team but Florida Atlantic fits under this category even more. FAU put themselves on the map while the Aztecs might’ve just changed the trajectory on how the Mountain West gets viewed.
