Hello Friends!
I've been playing with Open Cup pours since I saw Sarah Mack doing an incredible piece the other day, it's so much fun!
I cut the top inch off of a plastic cup, making a ring, and placed it on a puddle of white, then poured my colors into the center of that ring. The colors get pushed under the ring and white paint and comes up in beautiful tiny cells outside of the ring, its very cool to watch!
This is a 36x36 inch gallery wrapped level 3 canvas from Artist's Loft
I used Liquitex Pouring Medium, a bit of Water, a squirt of GAC800 and when that was combined I added some Floetrol. (About the same amount as the pouring medium).
My colors are:
Liquitex Basics
Titanium White
Pthalo Blue
Dioxizne Purple
DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics
24K Gold
Zinc
- There is NO Silicone in any of my paint -
Cells are formed by technique, which I show you in the video...
Several of you have asked about my torch... It's quite the fire-breathing dragon, lol...
Be advised, it is a bit heavy and unwieldy... and be cautious with the flame, it's crazy hot! HOA says to get the shorter, wider tanks, same capacity but much more stable.

I figured it out! You get cells without using silicone because all of your laughter and love bubbles out of the paint and bursts into the air . . . . hey it could happen. Such a clever and unusual method of pouring. Beautiful results.

I think we all should meet your husband he sounds like a wonderful person. You should bring him on screen one day so we can all see him. He’s behind the scenes. We love watching you you have so much humor and tenacity and your talent is beyond anything we’ve seen. We totally enjoy watching you. When I started watching I was watching a few other ones but I always come back to you. God bless you and your family and thanks for all the entertainment too.

I think Sea Dragon is such an apt title, the bubbles just seem to stream from his nose and I actually like the old gold colour at the bottom when it blended with the zinc. I also watch Sarah Macks’ channel and have for awhile, you ought to check out when she does a double open cup pour they are great, as is this too. I also like the negative space at the top. More please 😀.

Mina use the plastic you pull off the canvas to stick between the stretcher bars and canvas to keep it from dipping. I just roll mine up and stick it between the wood and the canvas. A little tape if nec to hold it in place. This is such a gorgeous painting! Loved watching you do this one.

I keep trying but I am weak 😄 I did do another open cup with a black background, it was so pretty! I wanted to just pour it and leave it, not tilt it at all.. but the cup moves around quite a bit. I had to tilt it, just to get the paint distributed evenly. I might try it again with a smaller pour and a lot more flow extender.. and just tilt off the flow extender..

Hi Mina justwanted to say I have been trying to learn from Sarah Mach with her open cups (bloody beautiful), my problem is I use 1 1/2 ft. X 11/2 foot concrete pavers by 2 ins. thick, they are so heavy. Biggest problem was finding away to stop the paint absorbing into the paver, done that, lot easier. The good thing about the conrete the open cup doesn't move until I need it to. My patner has recently been getting 3 ply pine & cutting into shapes whatever her fancy comes up with. She's happy, I have fun do easier pours then we make clocks, lazy susans, etc. Please keep the laughter going and you symbiosis with the wing. One happy watcher

Dear Mina, first lovely to see you again, on anther lovely day. In the beginning before tilting, I saw a snake head. Then when finished I saw a landscape with mountains in the background, where the white down below is a water fall with rocks surrounding it. To my eyes it looks wonderful. Time down here in OZ is 11/8/2019 3.43pm Sunday afternoon, looks like there is not a great time difference between us, or maybe you time stamp it in the future. Have a grand day Mina and see you soon I hope. Cheers from Australia.
