It's nice seeing you John catching the ling. In Atlantic City, we have a lot of very small lings, which shave us the bait (blood worms). BTW very expensive. You can imagine how frustrated we get. 😅. We keep bigger once as the are very tasty and there aren't restrictions on lings. Years ago they infested a long strip of NJ coast in millions. I've been busy to watch this episode today. Thanks.

Sneaky seal; that one clearly decided to work smarter, and let you both do all the heavy lifting! 😆🦭🐟 A couple of lovely fat mackerel, and that ling was nice; not the biggest in the sea, but plenty big enough for the table, or to share. @@bobhope3817 We actually didn't need the dogs, our other lil' cutie "pets" put in a surprise appearance as my misses was showing sister-in-law our lovely garden. Sister-in-law never moved so fast in her entire life and nearly took me out as she ran past in her blind panicked state! And to think, I've been putting down poison for them. Yep, sister-in-law is scared of dogs, paddling in the sea as there might be fish near her, doesn't like sand between her toes, terrified of heights, crowds, small spaces, strong wind, thunder and lightening, and all and any insects. Oh, and rats. She is absolutely, definitely, resolutely, petrified of rats. Rats who adore our dry stone wall surrounded garden and the abundant bird food which falls from our numerous bird feeders. Mind you, the misses did say the wee fellow who put in an appearance looked like a cross between a rat and a pit bull! 😆 😅 😂 🤣

Here on Cape Cod, USA, the seal numbers started exploding some time after 2000 due to protection. It got hard to bring a bass in either surf or boat fishing, because the seals would just wait and rob every fish. And then, of course, the great whites started to come in after the seals, and beach closings became common. They blamed the sharks on climate change, but it was actually the success of the Marine Mammal act that started it all.

I have some, but find in the kelp they are a little too expensive to lose. 🤣

@@TheFishLocker I've found them great for benthic species, but not so good for the pollock and bass (although I have had both on them). I keep them in the bottom 6 feet, wait for the tip to show you the bite, let it develop (they're eating up the trailer!) and simply load the rod - no need to strike. The small assists do a remarkable job! I'm sure if I drop one on a John Dory it'll inhale it!

@@HCH9990 - I agree. I have fished them with great effect in areas where rock meets sand or in deeper water to avoid the kelp.

The beauty of the new rod is everything you catch feels like Moby Dick on the hook! 😂

What's crazy is the hog fish of the western Atlantic is a tasty much sought after meal. Often referred to as a Hog Snapper, it is ,actually, a Wrasse. Crazy differences between cousins!

I usually leave when the seals show up, to bad theres a lot of them on the swedish west coast, and no predators to keep the numbers down, on a 20min trip i can count 3-10 seals. luckily, so far none of them have taken any fish from me.

@@TheFishLocker Hehe, that would put me halfway to Denmark, i aint doing that in a 15", 20hp 2-stroke😂 5-6NM brings me outside of the last rocks and on to the open sea. BTW i looked it up, we have something like 20k common seals on the west coast, British isles have some where about 35k, mostly up north. (sound like im trying to start a competition, but im not)
