I really liked this tall tale, mostly because all the characters are voiced, and because there were actual puzzles in it. I felt like I was playing a point and click game, and that is on point for Monkey Island.

LeChuck has always been an old school cartoon villain just like he was in the old games. So him going on a monologue about his evil plan is really iconic for him

I liked the Monkey Island puzzle style way more than: "Here! Read that book and find the clue!" Let's hope Rare starts doing more stuff like that after the other two tall tales.

I'm not even a monkey island fan, I didn't even know it was a game until you said it was. And I thought this was the most fun I ever had with a tall tail

The cursed captain only 'sort-of remembers us' in case the player HASN'T done A Pirate's Life. That way, the game can chalk any inconsistency up to the Captain's poor memory instead of assuming you've completed that content beforehand.

Yeah the only thing that made this tall tale pretty fun was the fact that it wasn’t something we had seen before, I agree that sea of thieves has a repetitive content problem which is unfortunate because this game is amazing and has nearly infinite potential.

1:21 after you take Murray away he confirms that he dose remember you and that you are in the sea of the dammed, he pretend to not know you because no one on this island believes Sea of Thieves or anything but this island exists. Also this takes place AFTER The pirate life so he dose know you

I never heard about monley island until this update but I love having a tall tale where you are not bossed around and told what to do. Just figure it out yourselves. Fabuloso Rare

I have never played the old monkey island games because I really wasn't into point and click adventure games, I just heard about it. But this new monkey island tall tale was astonishingly awesome! I enjoyed playing every second of it because it was unique and different than a casual sea of thieves session. I loved that you could explore a new big island (even though we only had acess to a small area which still is a big area) and have a different currency you could use to buy and use items, also finding a few coins scattered around the area was fun too because hey, pirates love looting right? The way it was build like a point and click adventure except that it's in first person is really great, like running around here and there, finding items, figure out what to do with them and try to progress the story it was actually very fun. Although I maybe would have enjoyed it more if I was a fan of monkey island and understand all the references but all in all it was still so awesome! I hope to get more monkey island tall tales like that!

The first time I played through the tall tale, I told my friend that it felt like a proof of concept. Hopefully we get the whole island in the next part.

Whilst it was short, I really enjoyed it. I had a blasted playing it with my Dad who was a monkey island fan, seeing his reaction throughout the tall tale was amazing. Looking forward to the rest now.

I played this last night. I never played monkey island but this Tall Tale was excellent! The latest adventure was complete crap so this was needed. Veeeery good content release!

I liked the puzzle system in this tall tale a lot. I really hope Rare does this in future tall tales/adventures. Excited for part 2 in a month!

I never played Monkey island (saw falcore's video's about it) and I had a blast! It was funny, fun and just very well done. That every NPC is voiced is just amezing.

my friends and i only knew virtually nothing about monkey island, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tall tale and are eagerly awaiting more ♥

Even without being a Monkey Island fan, this Tall Tale is loooaaads better than anything that's been in the game so far. I'd take the corny story-writing any day over AFK for 3 minute set pieces and "winning" a scripted battle, then having to go look up one or two guides to find how to do all the obscure commendations, like you said at the beginning of the video, the fact you're able to complete this without a guide is leagues better than Shores of Gold or even Pirate's Life And no journals is a godsend

As a non monkey island fan (I started playing the first game last year however work has been keeping me from finishing it) this was a love letter to monkey island and it shows. For those who have never played monkey island I could see this being fun for them

I just like that they just took away the hand holding and said, "here's a book to keep track of everything, the rest figure out for yourself" and that it's an instanced space so no need to worry about other crews. Just chill and soak everything in. I think the space was big enough for the puzzles they had without making back tracking too laborious but was still disappointed it was only a tiny chunk of "the biggest island in Sea of Thieves history, especially as just beyond the lookout is the cool zipline from the trailer but the game teleports you try to go near it.

I finished the tale only because of the cursed captain. He is by far my favourite character. And the first pirates life tall tale was waaaay better :D

my son and I had a blast playing it. I honestly forgot for a moment that it was a sea of thieves game as it does the point and click adventure style so well!

How the Sea of the Damned is works is weird but I’ll try to explain it to the best of my ability because of the confusion on the cursed captain. So, the cursed captain is actually there and is dead. He died with the skeleton curse and hasn’t taken the ferry. So he travels the sea of the damned like how we saw him going from sailors grave to the tavern in a pirates life. Through his travels he must have ended up on Melee. This is also all revealed after you defeat LeChucks minions and you talk to him. He knows he’s in the SotD.

They really need to make this into a standalone fully fledged game. Custom character exploring this world, first person puzzling ... some combat, some jump and run maybe. Sea of Thieves technology but without the references to the game.

As a Monkey Island fan I enjoyed all 3. My friends who had no idea what Monkey Island was didn't enjoy it as much because they didn't get the references to the original games so it was mostly me just explaining references the whole time.

Corina said that LeChuck is trying to be a new Pirate Lord, much like Davy Jones was trying to replace the Ferryman.

Had some great nostalgic moments during this tall tale. One thing that I'd like to see transition from both the Pirates Life and Monkey Island TTs into Adventure, NPCs. Both the Scumm Bar and the Tavern of the damned had NPCs just hanging around. This would be a great little addition to the taverns on outposts, or just populate Port Merrick a bit with NPCs in the tavern and streets.

Wellllll... The realistic illusion is created by lechuck, and I think that the cursed captain just wandered in there. He has a bit of dialogue post lechuck appearance that confirms he ended up there.

POTC Tall tale part 1-2 was a more visual experince but the Monkey Island was a more interesting for the player where you need to think more and not just a linjar path. :)

Had lots of fun doing this , we checked everything thoroughly, had great fun and banter doing it all. We'll do it again in a week or two for a full completion and repeat this for the others. For a completionist crew like ours we took 3 hours on the first time but we are all Monkey Island enthousiasts.

My only nitpick is that we are given the rootbeer BEFORE we meet Lechuck. i think it would have been much more impactful if Lechuck appeared beforehand and did a little more to show how dangerous and unstoppable he is. and then you can feel all awesome when you get the rootbeer bottle and melt all the ghost pirates. When Lechuck first showed up in my playthrough, i let him talk to hear what he had to say, but once i got the gist, i tried to spray him-- and the fact that hes just invincible for the sake of delivering an exposition dump while YOU'RE STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM WITH HIS ONLY WEAKNESS took me out of the world more than i could have expected. If we had to have the rootbeer before meeting him, why not place him out of reach like on the roof of the manor? i can see the potential for some cool animations of Lechuck looming over the island like that. OR it may have been funny to be able to cut him short-- spray him mid-speech and have him shout at us. That was the only little detail that particularly bugged me. as a major monkey island fan, this was easily the biggest and happiest surprise ive experienced in media as a whole for the last few years. It was just amazing seeing Melee island in a 3d space for the first time. I had fun showing my boyfriend the monkey island games in preparation for this expansion, and playing through it with my dad, who played the original Monkey Island with me in the early 2000s. The Sea of Thieves team did an amazing job. I cant wait for the next tall tale!

I’ve never touched the source material but I am an obsessive Pirates of The Caribbean fan... and I agree! This first part of Monkey Island blew my mind. I’ve had fun going through it and I think they are absolutely acing it

Having never heard of the original game, I went into it expecting way more area and puzzles, not a town of references I wouldn’t understand. Me and a friend were in and out in less than an hour wondering what we had just done. The story was very vague and foreshadowing. After all that was shown and teased in the trailers. Part 1 of 3 was very disappointing to most. I might just wait for both of the next parts to release before doing them at all. I have fof chests and upcoming season 10 to grind anyways, my gameplay focus is elsewhere. We kept thinking “okay i think the other area you can go down at top of the mountain with the obvious zip line in view might be unlocked now.. then it was over. Ooh mystical lady! what cool thing does she want us to do? Leave

GuyBrush was never on Sailor's Grave. It was Kate that woke up there. Therefore, Cursed Captain is the real Cursed Captain. This is also proven by his extra dialouge when you take Murray away. He secretly knows that he is in The Sea Of The Damned unlike pretty much anyone else at Mêlée. *NITPICK*

The most dissapointing thing about this tall tale for me was that you can't get the sprayable root beer in the main game :( Perhaps they were too busy making sure there was smoke coming out of the chimneys on Mêlée Island to give us main game access to this weapon though :)

I think even if you're not a Monkey Island fan it is more fun than A pirate's life. It's doesn't feel as linear. A lot of A Pirate's Life was "clear this room to get to the next room" which was still fun because of the story, but for Monkey Island my crew spent time exploring before starting the actual story. It caused some confusion at points but it made puzzle aspect feel more like those old point and click puzzle games. There were multiple of those "AHA! That's what that item is for" moments that feel really nice lol Also at first I wasn't happy with quest items not being in your voyage wheel like normally, but it did kinda force you to keep track of where you'd drop it so the map is more cemented in your brain.

i never played monkey isle. but this monkey isle expansion for me is another game in it self. completely different from the original sot content but omg is it awesome. I had so much fun n cant wait to do it all over again completionist style

And this is just Part 1 of the tall tale series. I mean, I get why they are padding the releases out, since releasing the entirety of A Pirate's Life allowed players to rush through it in a week or two, thus the excitement for that series died down in a hurry.

Was cool playing it for the first time, probably wouldn't even think about playing it a second time if it wasn't for those 2 stupid commendations with the dog and carrying Murray.

Personally I haven't played any of the Monkey Island Games, but this tall tale was sooo good. It felt good to interact with NPCs, do side quests, and steal some pieces of eight. I really hope they continue with this style at some point in the future, adding more NPCs to the world just to make it feel alive.

Nitpick: the dot that you circle things with on your map is not centered

Me and my friend found a way to get to guybrush in less than two minutes but you can’t enter the mansion.

I climbed the fence, onto the small shack, climbed the roofs and got up on the wall and just skipped the ghost but you can't interact with the door. Just a little something.

The second playthrough I was able to run around and climb up the ladder to the mansion before the skeleton got to the guard.

I think the most disappointing part was the rewards. The trinkets were all right, but imagine new players who aren't captains. I'd bet a few Monkey Island fans might have downloaded the game through Game Pass just to try it out. Some kind of reward, even if it was just something like the Chef's outfit, would've been the cherry on top.

I really enjoyed it, it was simple, felt a like nice tribute to the series and shows they know their Monkey Island well. I liked all the little references in there especially under the dock they had all the tools still in the water that are around Guybrush when hes tied to the idol lol. I look forward to the next 2 parts, although i wish we had more places to visit other than Melee and Monkey, i prefer Scabb Island and Blood Island. One thing that puzzled me (spoilers ahead) was the fact that Voodoo Lady is called Corina even though in canonical terms we didnt find that out until Return. Plus how do the ghost pirates know that Wally will have a map shop on Melee

I really liked the tall tale, however I still think the first pirates life tall tale is better.

I don't think that the Cursed Captain was made from Guybrush's memories. I'm pretty sure he got there the same way he got to the Tavern of the Damned. He mentions he's been in the Sea of the Damned for centuries by this point, so I feel like maybe he's just been sorta drifting around.

Im a Pirates of the Carribean fan (never knew Monkey Island). BUT. I believe Monkey Island Tall Tales > Pirates Life (besides the last one. That was gooood)

This was a great tall tale but it felt way too short. I did it solo in under an hour and a half. The puzzles were so simple. It took me longer to complete first pirates life solo due to being confused on some of the locations for the journals. No journals in monkey island, just places to sit and hear memoirs

I just wanna know when the next ones comin out tbh. Also clothing not damn trinkets

I found one thing a bit odd that could make no sense if you're a new player. If you're getting into the game because you're a big MI fan, then you would've missed the last adventure probably. Which then when LeChuck shows up and transforms into the pirate it would just make no sense? Either give us a bit more dialogue with backstory for those who missed the adventure or cut the pirate lord part out? Maybe it's just a nitpick, but everytime I see the LeChuck scene it bothers me a lot.

i've never played Monkey Island but i have played many other click adventure games, and i can see how this would tickle the tickles, sad the writing could be better but that seem to be a common problem the past years

The TT was pretty good I guess. By the end I wasnt even paying much attention to what was being said. Couldn't really tell ya anything LeChuck said. Like GeeNee said 3 hours and I was done. As with other TT I will never play it again unless the game requires it for something then I'll speedrun it. Content in the game is a huge problem. Just adding things like the Chest of Fortune would be a huge help. The re using comms and reskinning things is getting old. I worry for the future of what should be a thriving game. It's just not heading in a good direction. Its being dumbed down to nothingness. No substence, nothin substantial and no sustainability

I didn’t really like this tall tale because it was too much of just randomly searching coins at first, and you had to carry most items instead of having them in your inventory. And it was too short.

Honestly I feel as if they are really only interesting if you are literally a MK island fan. Credit where credits due tho the design team has done an amazing job :)
