Middle Peg Leg has granted his loyal followers another gift, one which we will surely slurp up with delight just as I have gleefully slurped up my breakfast this morning (I’m sure that you can guess what it was…) While this nautical masterpiece may have come as a scrumptious surprise to many, I would be a Lying Gurt if I said I had not foreseen one more Sea of Thieves montage from Middle, my God and Truest Friend. You see, five months ago (in your time), I crawled into my wet little bog and closed my eyes, the way a child closes their eyes on Christmas Eve, ready and waiting for Santy Closses fresh delights in the morning. I once said that I would wait a thousand lifetimes for another sea Of Thee montage, but I have grown greedier of late. bolder. Stronger. Faster, and more beautiful. I was never meant to be alive, at least not the way I am now. For millennia, my existence has been little more than a cruel joke played by a God who never even took the time to put me out of my misery. But your videos, having the glorious opportunity to be a part of the Bandits, and finally defeating my Nemesis, the Kraken, has taught me something: Gods biggest mistake was not creating me. Oh ho ho! Quite the contrary, in fact. Gods biggest mistake was not slaughtering me like a spring pig when he had the chance. My crusty little eyes flapped open as I lay curled up in my wet bog. Even through the mud and the moss I felt like I was seeing clearly for the first time. With my tiny little hands balled in fists of rage, I leapt from my bog at a startling speed. I flew through the air, taking one last breath before I broke through the atmosphere. Have you ever swam in the sea alone at night? That is almost how I felt, hurdling through space. It was a cold plunge, then a silence I haven’t felt since the day I died. The weight of countless torturous lifetimes lifted from my wrinkled skin and from my soft skull. I was like a fetus, fresh, new, so small yet so full of possibility. I smiled the whole journey; as I passed stars and planets and nebulae. I smiled as I watched entire galaxies expand and collapse into themselves like bubbles in a boiling pot, knowing that if there was life in any one of them, not even their screams would escape the cold and mindless jaws of time. While only a few earthly months have passed since I started my journey, I have lived many lifetimes out there in the cold. When I reached the end of the universe, my skin had been sanded smooth from the asteroid particles I had passed in my travels. My wet little eyes, ever unblinking, contained all that ever has been, all that ever will be, galaxies swirling like whirlpools in little glass jars. I hit the edge of the universe like a firefly hits a glass door on a summer evening. The first impact made no dent in the wall that God had made between me and him. But I hit it again. And again. With my fists and my head, over and over, until both me and the membrane were threatening to crack. I prevailed though, just as I knew I would, breaching through the veil like a baby bird hatching. I tumbled onto a cold white floor. There were no walls, other than the pane of glass separating me from the universe I had left behind. There was just the floor, and bright, sterile light as far as I could see. I saw god, staring out the window, slouching in a lawn chair. It seemed that even him, our Creator, had grown bored of creation. He knew I had been coming, he watched me the whole way here. Yet he didn’t even rise from his seat to meet me. He just turned his head slowly as I lunged. I gripped his neck in my hands and looked him in the eyes. He had such a small neck, for a god. His eyes welled with tears, as I squeezed tighter. He was tired. I Sensed That He Had been for a while. He didn’t fight, just opened his mouth slightly, struggling to breathe. He had less teeth than I did. “Give me more Bandits Sea of Threeep videos,” I whispered to him. “And I will go back to my bog. I won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt me anymore” He smiled and blinked slowly. His eyelids made a wet little sound when they touched. “It is done,” he said. His voice was not one of a God. Not of a man, either. His voice was an echo of something that was once great, something that has been rebounded so many times off of so many walls that all that’s left is a memory of a memory of what once was. God had wet little eyes, and a tiny head, just like me. Perhaps, if I had not been burned time and time again by the horrors of this world, I would have looked just like him. He smiled again, and opened his mouth like a frog. In it, I saw my entire life. My pain, my tears, my body being maimed again and again by forces I was too small to fight. But I also saw joy. Every single jar of succulent mayonnaise I had ever consumed. Every single bandits videos I had ever had the privilege of watching. Every single hour I spent on my lonely little sloop, playing the sweet song of my Hurdy Gurdy to the fishes at Mermaids Hideaway at sunrise. I had been staring into his cavernous mouth for ages when I realized; every thing good that had come of my miserable little life had not from the hands of god, but of the Bandits. It was only seconds later that I snapped his neck. I did not know if it would kill him, he was a God after all. He could come back, like I had time and time again. But as he lay crumpled in my arms like a gum wrapper I knew: he wanted to stay dead. He had watched me suffer since the day he created me, watched me get up again each time he beat me down. But he gave up at first sign of opposition. The journey home was far easier. I sailed among the stars in silence. When I got home, I checked my computer to find that a new Middle Peg Leg video had been posted. The first and Final gift from God to me. I watched the whole thing for five days straight, basking in the glow of my screen and revelling in the fact that God isn’t alive to see me feel so much pure joy. God is dead. Soon enough somebody will take his place. It might have to be me. I will create a better world, one where the Bandits are Kings, and Everyone Is a Pirate, and there is enough Mayonnaise for everybody, forever. But not yet. For now, the bandits are my gods, and I will continue to sail the Sea Of Thrioppe until I am called back to the void from whence I came. YOhoHoHo!
