LAST GEN Xbox is specifically what’s holding back the game! Bringing SoT to 2 NEW next-gen platforms is GOOD for the future of the game. Sea of Thieves is not a charity… It has to make money to continue supporting updates 6 years after its launch, and this news means the game will receive consistent updates for the rest of its originally proposed “10 year lifespan”. THAT is why this is good news.

@@captain_squiddy let’s be real. It is exactly BECAUSE this game isn’t making money, that Microsoft is willing to pimp it out. My point is this, had RARE spent the last few years adding content to the game to keep people playing and buying cosmetics (as live service games do), instead of recycling content and creating more menus and stat trackers, we’d likely see a more successful game. Let me be clear, I love this game and have put hundreds (probably thousands of hours) in, but for the last couple years now content for the game has been stale. Is that going to change because more people are playing it? Not likely. In fact I would imagine the opposite. since new players will be experiencing this content for the first time and will get more mileage out of what we’ve already been doing, RARE isn’t going to have much incentive to release anything new.

I’m talking about the reality of the present, which is that Sea of Thieves’ active playerbase has been declining for 3 years. This isn’t unusual for a 6 year old game, ESPECIALLY one with limited potential growth due to being an Xbox-exclusive title. The hard truth is that Microsoft is NOT gonna keep giving you free updates for a 6 year old game UNLESS it is making enough money to justify it. Games have limited life cycles. Opening up SoT to players on other NEXT GEN platforms is not “pimping” the game bro. It’s literally gonna revitalize and expand the community for the first time in years! Last gen consoles are holding back the game. By contrast, expanding to more next-Gen platforms is literally the only thing that can SAVE the game at this point. It’s objectively a smart business decision for Rare, and it is objectively going to benefit me as a player because I like getting free updates on a game I bought 6 years ago.

I kinda agree, older consoles are holding the game back, but the switch doesn't have the power to run a better sot, the switch would just become another limiting factor for what the devs can do. If it goes to a better Nintendo console, that's fine, but a switch won't be able to handle it

That's probably impossible The Nintendo switch is literally awful in terms of power The ps5 is 500x more powerful and even it had a load of issues on it's launch

I'm sure they won't add it to original switch because that is 2016 laptop hardware. But switch 2 with DLSS will be as fast as a PS5

Dropping last-gen support will fix that issue. As for bringing tons of new players to the game, the main point is that we’ll continue getting updates for years to come! In other words, sea of thieves is not going to die (yet). I think that’s a W, but Rare has lots of issues to address first

@@captain_squiddy oh yea.. the game isn't dead yet. And it will probably not die either.. World of Warcraft have been ''dying'' an an very long time now.. and its still alive and kicking. And that game have been ''dying'' since Cataclysm expansion. which was released back in 2010. So I don't think Sea of thieves will actually die.

Hopefully the release on the new platforms will earn them the money to fix servers. That would be fantastic

Yes but if they expand to more platforms they make more money and then they can (hopefully) actually afford to make the changes they’ve promised like better servers, anticheat, and all that. Ig only time will tell tho

@@justsantyuy yeah rn they def don’t have anything effective but hopefully with the new player base they can have an anti cheat that works and they can afford to ban the players that are cheating. Ig we’ll just have to see
