Insomnia, it's not fun. As someone who has insomnia, it doesn't matter how relaxed you get, I watch ASMR videos all night long and still can't fall asleep sometimes. And never stay asleep.

I find it great for taking out Megalodons because I don't have to wait for cannon range.

Unless it's a change made later, it's worth to mention blast radius. From what you said it looks like charging it makes 0 sense. But in fact the more you charge it, the bigger the area it hits, so you could kill a few NPC enemies with one fully charged shot.

It would make sense to allow the player to sell it to the Hunter's Call for rep and gold.

0:20 Not true. The Ashen Winds Skull is also a physical item that can be used as a weapon. 2:49 I tried to sell it to The Castaway, because it makes sense if you think about it. It didn't work.

Actually it is true! It’s mostly just semantics, but I was very careful with my wording at that spot haha. The Ashen Winds Skull is classified as a loot item, particularly a “Bounty Skull” item, whereas the trident is classified as a “Weapon”. Though there are some similarities between those two items in particular, the distinction is mostly by the intention of the item.

I got this weapon, I’m a newbie. I simply just sunk my ship since I didn’t know how to… drive? And then I spoke to a mermaid, respawned somewhere and there was one next to me.

If you mean the Ashen Winds Skull, yup it's still in the game! You just have to find an Ashen Winds event or Fort of Fortune to fight one of the Ashen Lords at.
