@@West_Coast_Gangnot really. Does Japan still hunt whales 2023? Japan. This nation discontinued its association with the International Whaling Commission in 2018. They declared their plans to still hunt sei, Bryde and minke whales. The International Union for Conservation of Nature first added the sei whale to the endangered list in 2008.

So much for their belief that the Supreme Court upheld injunction in Case ID 12-35266 couldn't be applied outside the United States. They were found in contempt in December 2014 and forced to settle with a US$2.55 million dollar payment to the whalers by the next summer. ICDR Case No. 50 20 1300 0952 was simply the nail in the coffin.
@canucktunes4 жыл бұрын
@@terranaut1218 Yes. They tried sneaking by the injunction by lending Sea Shepherd Australia their credit card and equipment they owned but that didn't work. They weren't supposed to be involved, at all. They weren't even supposed to campaign or solicit one dime for it but Paul couldn't resist trying to get his share of the limelight and got caught on one of the vessels there.
@canucktunes4 жыл бұрын
@@terranaut1218 I personally believe they could have spent the 30 million dollars they spend on these campaigns elsewhere, like on the vaquita. But then these donations came from Whale Wars watchers that would have been bored if their primary campaigning was for the vaquita. Seriously, it brought in so much dough that they couldn't stop lying. The common minke whale and antarctic minke whales were the primary targets of Japan's activities in the Antarctic and those were not endangered or classified as threatened yet because Japan took an odd fin whale and had planned to take humpback whales Sea Shepherd implied that they saved endangered whales. Japan cancelled their plans to take humpbacks in December 2007 and Greenland took three times the fin whales in the same period (Japan:18/Greenland 60) but Sea Shepherd still claimed to be saving both, even though weather and other issues had caused Japan to already miss their quotas in JARPA I (when sea shepherd wasn't in the antarctic) To maintain the drama on Whale Wars they disregarded international laws, faked a shooting and purposefully sank the Ady Gil to blame the Japanese. And meanwhile the vaquita dwindled to their current numbers. :-/

@@frosttaco3540 no of course it doesn't stop whales from being killed and I believe whaling is wrong just as much as the next person. However sea sheperd seem to fail to take into account the real reasons behind it and try to help tackle them, because there is much more to it that meets the eye. It is supply and demand, simple as that. There is a big big market for whale meat in Japan and that must be supplied. Where there is a demand there must always be a supply. The ships need to be stopped or more closely regulated, but it had been argued by some that Japan can't actually stop whaling for some reason or another that I'm not aware of, but you get what I mean. I believe they can but think sea sheperd could run a successful campaign closer to Japan to try and cut the core issues. For example trying to get other nations to condemn whaling or place a sanction on whale meat production and purchase.
