i think a couple 50 cals would be cheaper and much more effective at deterring sea slugs
@NightdropsBoyfriend
@NightdropsBoyfriend 4 жыл бұрын
Doing something like that would open the Japanese up to the same. Commit that crime and Sea Shepherd could literally use its ship as a bigger 50 cal weapon to sink the ship without the 50 Cal doing anything to a ship over 400 tons. Small bullet compared to a ship. Not smart. Any tactic can be countered idiot. You going to shoot a 50 cal when a ship deploys a smoke screen? lol. I hope you know that there are much better smoke screens today than in WWII that can be deployed from a fast moving ship. A determined group could easily cause chaos. No amount of security will stop someone that has a mission. I could go on about ways to negate a 50 cal threat from drones deploying OC spray, water cannons with oc mixed in capable of reaching over 500 feet, to even swarming the ship in huge numbers. Think you are badass with a weapon and someone will come in with serious sea control and kiss your little idea goodbye because you will not stop a group or an organization with the resources, manpower or strategy to back up their credible use of force in response. It might be cheaper to use a weapon, but the ensuing response will cause greater chaos and increase in operational costs. They could do several close calls to elecit a response from the whalers (force them to shoot and use up resources with no effect). Basically decoy them. Over time they will begin to conserve them (be real with yourself, they aren't going to have a stockpile of arms on board). They are not a military and do not have supply ships, therefore they will eventually run out. And if they cannot get to the Nisshin to restock, then what? Remember all this done on a ship that is armoured against an attack with a speed over 45 knots (no not sea shepherd). How will you get close when an unmanned prop fouler deploys from under the ship in complete secrecy (like a torpedo with a long rope)?. What about when the ship deploys an unmanned drone ship that travels over 5,000 nautical miles? How do you plan to get near it with a 50 cal? What if they fly a drone with a gps tracker onto the ship? You have no idea..just wait until you see what's next lol.

I had boiled whale in Pohang, RoK. Don't worry, the whale was "farm raised". I did not really like the taste of it. I would like to try it fried, roasted, baked, in a stew, stir fry, etc. to see it any good flavor could be coaxed out. I was told boiled whale meat is more of a late night delicacy accompanied with soju and taken by groups of men as a bonding ritual. Will be back to explore the topic more.

It’s been the same show for years. A bunch of volunteers trying to take down a huge Japanese whaling fleet. Water hose, loud noise and throwing acid has been their tactics. Why don’t they get training and maybe they will make a difference.

I’m really surprised that the Japanese don’t use lethal force. They should be allowed to defend themselves against these terrorists.

The acts from the sea shepherd deserve the same tactics done back to them. Im sure the Japanese are smat enough to develop high pressure paint ball Gatlin guns as stand off defense for these clowns in the fast ribs. If this paint ball system could reach out to 150 yards, i don't think they would get close enough to purposely cause damage to these ships who are 1000 of miles away from land. Better yet, 2 of the Japanese ships should head straight on to the sea shepherd and pass her on her port and starboard sides dragging ther own prop foller behand them and disability them. Lets see how they like it.

@@danapenaherreta1970 except Holland and Liberia ;) and pirate ships don't need flags & not all flag states require deletion certificates- so multiple flags/names for one vessel is possible (its how cocaine is moved to fool marinas on their in/out traffic)

So badly informed. Have you actually read the whole program of all the actions onshore and offshore they‘re doing? Started from turtle nest rescue to poaching intervention in protected areas? Oh and by the way, they work together with governments and navy units, because no one actually feels responsible for protecting the law and nobody gives a sh** for an overfished ocean. Please read before you make a fool of yourselves.

Emily Rosamund even though the Japanese whalers WERE illegally hunting in those waters, they had more than enough rights to defend themselves if they had armed security. Imagine some unidentified ship comes out of nowhere and not only tries to disable your ship’s propellers but also starts throwing gas bombs. The japanese would have all rights to retaliate. What I’m trying to say is, I’m glad that the campaign was successful but the sea Sheperds should have put more consideration into the situation they were putting themselves in.
