This brief clip captures the Seaboard Airline Railroad and its rival, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, sometime between 1955 and 1958. I found this 25-foot 8mm film on the reel featuring the Norfolk and Western and Virginian Railway. It showcases locomotives in motion and scenes from a Seaboard railyard.

0:25-0:32 appears to be Fayetteville, NC 0:33-0:52 is Rocky Mount, NC 0:53-1:28 is Norlina, NC Some Second Generation EMD power is shown in these clips which would place, at least the North Carolina footage, around 1966-67. Thanks for sharing!

Why does every one of your videos look like the playing speed is too fast?

It's all thanks to those old wind-up cameras! They weren't exactly consistent, some ran fast, some ran slow. Modern scanners love 24 frames per second, so now everything plays at that pace, even if the film was originally slower. Thanks for watching!

@@the8mmrailyard-vd6jd I transfer film on a regular basis. Yeah, wind-up cameras can vary in speed, but what I'm seeing is consistent speed that is too fast for the original film rate. 8mm film has a playback speed of 16 frames per second and super 8mm at 18 frames per second. While transferring to 24 fps gives smoother motion, it looks unnaturally fast for 8mm and super 8mm. Not sure which machine you are using to transfer, but every machine I've seen both commercial and amateur, have a way of setting the correct speed for the film format, usually 16, 18 and 24 frames per second. May want to check your settings.

@@the8mmrailyard-vd6jd I use a custom-made frame-by-frame machine for film with custom written software.
