My pump absolutely refused to come apart and ended up stripping the shaft - so i welded quarter inch steel to the end of it, clamped it in the vice, heated it back up, and after a while (and a broken vice) it finally popped loose.

Everything look nice, except I’m put grease on those needle bearings after put the seals and before put the shaft. That’s was the reason for seal to protect from weather get in and grease go out.

First video I have found with needle bearing. Thanks for showing removal. I knew a hammer would work, that all we ever used in shadetree mechanics.. Curious if bearing set to deep, that cause around 1/8" end play on impeller/ drive shaft..

That seal, for a 2000 GTX the manual states the "spring side" with the seal spring visible after installing the seal. Looks like you're putting the seal upside down according to the manual. Please

Just rebuilt my first pump with this video as a guide! Thanks for giving the torque specs and tools used. I was told I needed a neoprene seal for install of the jet pump, does that just go between the hull and pump??

You could have put the housing in the freezer for 40m or less and it should slip right out without damaging the walls of the ring wear inner base n impeller housing

Great video. Did you figure out why there was water in the bullet? I just took mine apart and the gear oil is milky white from water getting in. I'll use gasket sealant when I reassemble it.

Probably because it hadn’t been changed in 20 years

@@SprocketHead I just changed the oil last spring. I think sealant on the bolts and O ring will solve that issue.

How do you diagnosed that you need to replace that? I have I seadoo boat 97 the 2 engines are running good but wen I put it on the water I have no power the engine running at 7,000 rpm but like 10 miles and hours only, you think that is my problem thanks 🙏

First I would check to make sure nothing is plugging up your impellers (like seaweed or other debris) if they aren’t plugged up, then they would have to be in really bad shape for you to not get over 10mph, which leads me to think this probably isn’t the problem.

Great video when I did it with the seal like you had it with the spring in the inside water got in. On the forums I saw the seal gets installed with the spring on the water side. That worked good for me until the spring rusted out in salt water. Any ideas?

nice video! I just finished rebuilding mine but when I go to tighten the impeller on the shaft, it binds up and doesnt want to spin. Any idea of what I may be doing wrong?

Owen Anthony sounds like maybe a bearing is in the wrong spot/order to me. Or maybe the shaft isn’t going all the way in?

@@SprocketHead My front bearing is .09 and the other is .075 per manufactures spec. I also made sure I bottomed out the oil seal. It seems like the only time I can make it spin freely is when the thrust washer is taken out of the equation.

Just had the same problem. Your washer after the bearing is not seating correctly on the pump. Ensure that it is straight and your housing will drop down further giving you more room to spin freely.

Hey there, I have a 2010 Seadoo Challenger and the Starboard engine is making a “noisy bearing” sound whenever it’s running. Is this the likely cause? This is my first jet and the engine runs too good for it to be the issue.

Roy Wylie jet pumps can be pretty noisy when they bearings start failing. They will also be much louder out of water than in. I’d say if it’s only making noise outside of water, leave it. If it’s still clanking like crazy in water, rebuild it. The engines themselves shouldn’t make too much of a bearing noise.

How much heat are you applying - maybe give me a clue in seconds/minutes?

Mick Galvin depends on fuel you use. We were using mapp gas (yellow torch) which burns way hotter than propane (blue). We probably had it on there for maybe 30-45 seconds or so.

Mick Galvin roast it. If you’re doing a proper rebuild, you’ll replace anything that could get hurt, right?

Also try hitting it from different angles with a brass hammer when it’s hot. Can help loosen stick threads. Might be worth using penetrating oil if it’s still being a turd. Or all of the above.

@@SprocketHead This started out as a supercharger rebuild (which is done just not reinstalled). I then took a look at the carbon ring and ordered a couple of tools to do that - so thats pending. The leading edges of the impeller are banged up from wood going thru a few years ago (Lake Folsom after a drought washed tons of deadwood into the lake) and so I thought I'd get that repaired. Strangely the wear ring looks perfectly fine and I suspect the bearing etc is fine too as I can find no evidence of water ingress. A good bolted down vise is really my issue - normally one of my friends has some tool I need - this seems to be the exception.
