Is it necessary to pull out the engine for a top end rebuild? I'm about to start working on my 717 engine (1997 SeaDoo GTI)

Not necessary, some say it's easier

Most likely a needle bearing from that bad wrist pin 📌

iirc if the linkage fails on the oil pump arm, it defaults to wot.

I can tell by looking at those Pistons that is a fuel issue not oil

Popular consensus … if your shit oil injection failed and you ran it that way you cooked the engine … rebuild it new bypass that shit

those oil pumps never fail, if anything its the oil lines that would go but any 2 stroke rider knows the usual smoke their machine puts out.
