Did you notice all the white spots in the video? It’s all plastic trash. Our beaches are not supposed to look like this. Our ocean floors are even worse, but most of the rubbish is below the surface and hidden from plain sight. We made sure to pick up as much of the trash as possible, so it doesn’t pose any further harm to any seal or marine animal. Our videos have proven how dangerous plastic can be, and we want to prevent entanglements from happening in the first place.

Sometimes the seals' straight-line mentality is just hysterical. Going around an obstacle just isn't a concept their brains process.

That's a lot of trash, so out of place, carried there by tides and waves and wind, and a danger to all the animals who pass or dwell there. Thank you for rescueing the beautiful seal and showing us the ugliness of what we are doing to nature.

It doesn't say much for humans as a species to see plastic waste in such an isolated place. Thank you for picking it up, but I'm sad it uses valuable time that could be spent scanning the seals.🦭♻️

The shortest distance between two point is a straight line, mathematically speaking. Seals are good at math, but not necessarily good at logistics. Thanks again, OCN.

SAVE A SEAL AND SAVE THE PLANET!! Every piece of plastic removed from a living seal is one less piece of plastic that would have re-entered the ecosystem if that seal had died in the ocean. I live in a desert a thousand miles from an ocean, yet I see the effects of plastic, single use waste EVERYWHERE. Be a HERO TODAY like the OCN crew and contribute to the solution. Love and hugs from me in New Mexico USA.

I am sorry to read in the comments about the rubbish around. I did not see it myself - just sand and rocks - but I am viewing on a phone so the screen's quite small. In any case, I wish everyone would show more respect for the planet; so many people can't be bothered to deal with their trash, on land or at sea, so it then becomes someone else's problem. It annoys the hell out of me🤬 as, even as a small child, when out and about I was told to give sweet wrappers etc to my parents, or to put them in a pocket, so they were properly disposed of at home. Sorry for the rant. Thank you OCN for saving another beautiful seal💙

There was a documentary recently that said "there is approximately 51 million tons of plastic in the ocean". The marine life don't stand a chance. But these chaps are heroes for going there day after day helping. And we can help by funding it and also stopping the plastic.

Our efforts are just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of tonnes of trash entering the world's oceans every year. We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. These videos aim to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.

It's interesting that the seal will make a b-line for the water and go over a lot of bumpy rocks that slow his speed. But if they go around the rocks they could get to the water faster. Talk about being laser focused.

Hi all!!! A lot of garbage... I really want living beings to live in clean nature. But, alas, these wonderful rescuers have to catch another seal every day and cut off the debris from it. Thank you guys! Today is May 6, 2024. This amazing channel still has 1.92 million subscribers (that number hasn't changed in 17 days. Looking forward to 80,000 more subscribers!) Subscribe if you haven't already. By subscribing, liking, commenting, donating and reposting, you help save seals. From the comments: “Allow the video to run in the background and let the advertising run its course. All of this can be done with multiple yt accounts and it's all free, but OCN helps."

Don’t people fishing have one bit of line with a hook at the end? Why would you tie any loops? 🤷🏻‍♂️
@OceanConservationNamibia
@OceanConservationNamibia Ай бұрын
Commercial fishing lines are often tied in loops on board fishing vessels to secure equipment or hang fish in the hold. Recreational fishing lines are stored on reels and naturally tend to loop once uncoiled. When they get tangled or knotted, anglers cut and discard them as they are unfortunately too cheap to be worth unraveling. Fishing activities are inherently destructive and fully participate in the plastic crisis our oceans are now facing. We therefore encourage our viewers to stop eating seafood.

Adopt a Highway in the U.S. is an iconic program that really works for the removal of litter. However, I suspect it would just be a conveyor belt of trash that is continually washed up on shores... as well as the issues for the wildlife. Civic clubs and the like sponsor a section of the highways, public areas and the like. And signs are posted of who is responsible for the clean up, but I think it is a larger issue than this here?
