Back in Australia, I used to restore those ship trunks, they can look fantastic if done properly. That's a beauty, polished up those fittings if brass, could look great.

Fun trunk ! The trunk itself has a bit of mold on it which is easily cleaned off. Loved the giant cows !!! You grow them big in Canada 🇨🇦 The tin barn with animals I think is Kenner from the 60’s. Great find and so much fun opening the treasure chest ☺️

Who'd have thought I would take such pleasure in watching you go through a trunk of toys? Every time you said something like "Oh, look at that", "Oh, these go together" or "That goes with this", my inner child felt like I just won a prize! That was fun! Let's do more, OK?

Lots of German’s settled into Canada after the 2nd War, my husband’s family was part of that immigration. My husband was born in Winnipeg. So cool to see more of that German heritage there. Wonderful old memories in that old trunk. I played with almost all of those animals, fencing and metal barn. Stole quite a few of my brothers cars that looked like those too. Lol

These toys are giving me flashbacks! It didn’t take much to entertain us in the 50’s - 60’s. Some plastic animals, metal cars, & add dirt.
@99Cafer994 жыл бұрын
I used to build an "volcano" in my sandbox in my parents garden and driving cars all day long up and down being fascinated by the tracks the wheels carved into it; I even created parking spaces at the top. I even was allowed to light the volcano with paper trash when I was around 12 years old when my parents where inside in the living room or on the terrace. I'm very thankful to my parents that they raised me with that much freedom and relied upon my reason to not act dump. And I'm only 20 now. Point is: If you let your kids their freedom and give them the tools they very much keep themselves entertained with almost nothing except their imagination despite there being video games accessible (which I loved back then and still love, too). Overprotecting children is the main problem paired with toys you have to use in an single, by the manufacturer determined way. I too loved being free to walk around in the neighborhood and going to an small "stream" by the fields or near the quarry (mind you not in the actual quarry) or to the local playground all alone (But we had to go back when the street lights lit or the church bell rang 6 in the evening, iron rule which we had to follow). Later I was responsible to watch my younger sister when going there and despite the occasional conflict I loved it and my sister loved it being there without parents but with me.
@19bishop564 жыл бұрын
Cafer And you’re only twenty? Its wonderful that your parents gave you such freedoms. It does build character, & we learn by our mistakes. I loved hiking, fishing, & just being outdoors more than indoors. (We had only 3 TV channels back then too, haha) Some of my favorite toys were frogs & lizards, they were free if you could catch them! My kids were allowed to play the video games, (they’re all in their 30’s now) but I made sure they spent outdoor time, & if interested, they played sports. You just can’t replace childhood, & it sounds like you had wonderful parents that trusted & supported you & your sister to have adventure time. Lighting that volcano must have been so cool, but especially because they taught you how to do it right. Fun times are what we all need, no matter your age, & you will carry that through the years!
@99Cafer994 жыл бұрын
@@19bishop56 I feel exactly the way you described! And for an character to be build you need to be able to act on your own for the experiences needed to build said character. I had an grand and useful childhood. And your children are lucky in many ways they had the same freedom.

my father's family is predominantly german/eastern european and have been here since the late 17th century and settled in the poconos. they were practicing lutherans and up until the great war it was common for children to learn german at home and english in school. all the old family bibles, baptism certificates, marriage certificates were written in german. my great grandfather was made a supervisor with the railroad but in order to keep his job he had to learn to read and write in english to keep the position. german died out in the family with their generation and now their great great grandchildren have to learn it school.
