Never knew there was that much involved with those silos(we’ve used bunkers for my lifetime). Thanks for taking the time to show all the different aspects of how they work!

That was a great video I honestly didn’t know there was other metal silos besides the harvester silos. My grandpa tells me stories when he used a wooden silo and upgraded to a concrete one and it was a world of difference.

Thanks for showing us Mike. I’ve been around harvestores all my life. I can see the advantages to the unloader setup you have. I worked for a guy who had a “ Cropstore” silo with a ladig unloader ,it was set up just like yours. His unloader was worn out though

My uncles have a Harvestore 31/89 high moisture silo. It was built in 1979 with a new leg for 100,000 had the roof replaced a few years back and catwalk that was 40,0000 wonder what a new cost today??! Awesome vid.

Mike the Sealstor silos same to be better then the old concrete one if the unloader broke down better get ready pitch some silage. I like the bags or clamps for silage it seem easier to full with but who knows they may up with away a better way then silos and bag and clamps.

Mike Less show a video of a farmer filling very tall poured concrete silos: 2 - 30x148' & 1 - 30x120' (yes, they REALLY are that tall). The only blower that can push the silage that high is a Gehl 1580. Of course they quit doing agricultural equipment, so this guy bought 5 (I think) for future use & parts. Wowzers eh?!

I dont believe they make them anymore. I know yoy can buy them from another farm and have them taken apart and set up on the farm. we havent put one up in over 20 years so im not sure what they go for now

Those unloader were junk in the sealstores, the harvestore unloader ended up being much better. Not to mention you could build larger structures with the harvestores
@mikep7810

We use ours everyday for over 20 years and have had little problems. I've read harvestore put a lot of work into their unloaders to make them better. The new unloaders look nice

These unloaders look like they're easier to access then the harvestores and you don't have to short arm it. From your other videos they seem to run the feed out a lot slower then a harvestores. Have you ever had to dig out one of these unloaders before?
@mikep7810
@mikep7810 5 жыл бұрын
I've had it plug up behind the access door before it that wasn't bad. I've never seen a harvestore unloader in person but I believe ours is a little slower. I've read that harvestore really improved their unloaders so if we ever were to put up a new silo I'd definitely check them out
@jdtractorman7445
@jdtractorman7445 5 жыл бұрын
I think some people talk bad about Harvestores because they don't do maintenance on them like they should. My grandfather and uncle's farm had a Harvestore, replaced cutter chain a couple times maybe, other than that I don't remember issues with it at all. It had a Goliath unloader I believe. Thank you for showing the unloader design on your silos, they look more "repair friendly" than the Harvestore unloader should that situation arise. Do those breather bags you show go inside the top of the silo like in the Harvestores?
@mikep7810
@mikep7810 5 жыл бұрын
They are like the ones that go in the top of the silo. From other videos I've seen harvestore are starting to put their breather bags somewhere outside the silo like this

I curious what moisture are you shooting for on the corn silage in your harvestor? We put everything in stave silos at 60-65% and have always been told you need corn silage around that 50% if you put in a blue one so it’ll not freeze up and get stuck in the winter Thanks!

@mikep7810

No, there is no chain to long arm out the side like in a harvestore. Its an auger that goes around that you can access through that door underneath

Why don't you use a silagebunk?,i understand that there is more feed loss in these towersilos than in a silagebunk
@mikep7810
@mikep7810 5 жыл бұрын
We like the tower silos. They work well for us. If we went to a silage bunk there would be more feed loss plus we'd have to hire more people to pack the bunk after dumping a load where now its just 1 person chopping and 1 person unloading
