I know it's been 3 years now, but still, congratulations. That's a simple concept to understand and still, google have not implemented it on google drive. WE WANT SEAMLESS LYNC GOOGLE, come on! In a few days I plan to format my desktop and I sure will try this custom feature, because I also have been looking for it a long time. Thank you, man!

I had this very conversation with my colleague only yesterday. Why doesn't Microsoft provide this kind of integration.

They kind of do with One Drive. But on the second device, you need to set it up manually, and if you don't have internet, you loose access to the files location cause it's all cloud based. Best option so far was buying a QNAP TS-230 and setting up Qsync cause Google killed off Backup & Sync in place of Google Drive for Desktop. And this is no longer possible.

Do you think it's possible to do the same behavour with dropbox ?

Not sure, I'd have to give it a try. Google Drive just recently updated and broke this method so I actually gave to figure out a new solution so I'll include Dropbox in my testing for the next video I make about this.

You can't trust Google. I ended up buying a QNAP TS-230 and set it up the same way using Qsync. No more subscription too. Best solution I've found so far.

Google broke this entire thing when they made Google Drive for Desktop. The option to sync specific folders in Backup and Sync is gone in this new Drive for Desktop that they force you to update to. You can't even open Backup and Sync anymore. You CAN do this with OneDrive, DeopBox, and Sync.com using their software. Or, you can make a NAS and use Syncthings, or just buy a consumer NAS like I did by QNAP and use Qsync which does the same thing as well. Qsync doesn't work correctly on Linux, but they FINALLY released a new update after two years now and I'm hoping the issue is fixed but I haven't tested yet lol. But, to simplify this, yes, it works on Ubuntu or any flavour for that matter, you just can't do it with Google Drive anymore because they removed the option.
