Whether it's Anthony Hopkins, Robert Deniro, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Johnny Depp, Val Kilmer or in this case Sean Penn knowing and having the chance to be interviewed about BRANDO just demostrates the power and impact of the actor. It seems that the zenith of a career for these great actors is to be asked, "What was Marlon Brando like?" Not that I mean to diminish the great work of such actors but they all appear to be reduced to the rest of us as fans, who were lucky to have been friends and speak on camera about Brando.

Beautifully said by Sean Penn! I especially liked when he spoke of the fight scene in The Last Tango... how his anger turned to sadness but also how Brando could look at a Hummingbird feeder and find great joy in being alive. Life is all about the good and the bad, as are human beings. Brando was what I call a "game changer". We were blessed with many game changers in our world BUT they are also human beings. Good and bad. Great yet flawed. Penn articulated that very well in this beautiful tribute to Marlon Brando.

I love Sean Penn. He's an amazing actor, that primal scream in Mystic River, his portrayal of Dave the shit lawyer in Carlito's Way, his amazing, heartbreaking acting in I Am Sam. The only one I can't watch is Casualties Of War (I have my own reasons for not being able to watch it) In fact I hated him in it, but that's the sign of a good actor, watching an actor you admire and hating him due to his great acting. I also love his down to earth, no bullshit attitude. So Sean, if you're ever in the UK pop in for a cup of tea, I will throw in a chocolate digestive too ;

I never heard any actress or ex wife/girlfriend who had anything positive to say about Brando. He was a legend in his own mind first & foremost. He knew where the camera was, knew how to work Hollywood. He capitalized on his youth, looks, and publicity until he couldnt. And then he turned to his ability to convince the Hollywood elite he was a god & worthy of any accolade & price. Definitely left behind several good performances, but he also left some that weren't. He was an eccentric, charismatic, tortured person, handsome & lucky in his youth, but genius is a bit of a stretch.

Sean's comments are insightful and he, along with other actors mentioned such as Day Lewis, Depp, and I would add Christian Bayle, are the rightful heirs to Brando. But I felt that, contrary to Seann Penn's claim, late in his career, Marlon felt contempt for his craft; in fact I recall him saying in an interview that acting wasn't an art. After Apocalypse he took huge paychecks for glorified cameos, never stretching himself or even making much of an effort. I felt he was depriving those of us who had been deeply moved by his performances when he still CARED were being deprived of the greatness of which he was still capable. The horrendously tragic circumstances of his family must have been a terrible burden for him, perhaps making it impossible to still care about acting. No actor ever moved me as deeply as Marlon did, so reading about the tragedies that befell his children, seeing that once beautiful body and face become grotesquely bloated, and watching his last movies filled me with great sadness, surely the greatest sadness ever evoked by someone I never knew. RIP Brando.

Marlon had to just face the camera and give his best. Even if he wanted to he couldn't cheat on his magnificent understanding of his craft. The tiniest cameo of his is worth four hours movies of so called good actors. Today with complete honesty and understanding I negate all actors everywhere across the world. Marlon taught me what it was to live a role.

Marlon Brando is the greatest actor because of his unmatched acting range. From 1950-60 he played a paraplegic in THE MEN, Stanley Kowalski in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, a Mexican revolutionary in VIVA ZAPATA, Mark Anthony, a Hell's Angel in THE WILD ONE. Terry Malloy in ON THE WATERFRONT, Napoleon in DESIREE, sang and danced in GUYS AND DOLLS, a Japanese man in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON, a contrite nazi in YOUNG LIONS then directed ONE EYED JACKS.

I like very much good books and movies...what I do not get is why some actors get so egocentric in their work that they philosophize what it is, as if it is the greatest job on earth or it cannot be explained, acting or pretending that one is a cowboy or pervert or cop, etc. I like that Brando spoke truth about the genocide of the Indians, slavery and this warmongering nation (as no other nation has been.) Actors are not the most profound ones on earth...it is pretending for millions of dollars.

First of all... Acting is one of the professions with the highest percentage of unemployment. By saying "Pretending for millions" you are just talking about very very tiny minority of actors in the world, leaving the ones working in tiny playhouses and the ones that cant get a job out of it. Second, you clearly don´t know much about acting an its craft. I get your point of view because there is a lot of that in the industry but to generalize like that... You should pick up one of the great characters and work on them yourself. You´ll see how profound it gets.

I wouldn’t say the U.S. is a warmongering nation at all. While it’s true the land was taken from the Indians, they took the land from each other and had many tribal wars over territory. There isn’t a country in the world that didn’t take the land from anyone else except maybe the Eskimos. In the Eskimo’s case, no one else ever wanted it. The U.S. has never attacked other countries so as to gain territory like all the European countries have done. We have never been imperialists.

Despite being somewhat full of himself, Sean Penn is a talented actor. Ironic since one of his early roles playing Jeff Spicoli the stoner, didn't suggest he took acting seriously. I'm talking about how he played the role but the role itself. Since then he's had numerous challenging roles that he nailed. I could see why Brando was a fan of his work and became friends with him. So there is a side to Sean that is appealing to some or many. He's also given his time to good social issue causes so I think saying he's an Ahole doesn't really describe the guys soul correctly. Smoking doesn't help him; you can see how it ages him.

This is the only piece about marlon on the net of deep value, that touches. Both born in year of rat. Penn metal rat. Brando wood rat. Words of totality from an actor morning the loss of a genius.

Why hasten your own death with known causes? Death claims everyone, eventually. My Dad smoked, he had 2 sons. One smoked and one didn't. The smoker died at 59 from lung disease. Many thought he died 20 years early.

Mr. Penn is one of my favorite actors. He's way up there with the greats. Loved him in At Close Range and Dead Man Walking. And being an 80's buff I kinda liked that he slapped Madonna around. C'mon, she deserved some resistance at that time.

She needed it, not all people do, but she wanted it and so does he. Some people have to be shown they are not as powerful as they think. A good ass beating, at the right in life, can be a proper attitude adjustment. Too much fame, too much money, too much sex, too many drugs and a good stomping will save your life.

wins and nominations? actors aren't race horses my friend. you ask Jack Nicholson who is the great actor of all time and you know what his answer will be. Christian Bale was an is an average actor. don't play on him.

6:42 ... and things are becoming even uglier from year to year. Good to not have to be part of it anymore at a particular day. The world is yet a little more distressful without Marlon Brando's spirit.

ANd he is already developing the voice of a smoker, at the time this was taped. I hope he has quit. I didnt.....went from cross country runner etc. Down hill with breath so slowly thst i didnt know or accept the fact that i needed to get in a padded cell or whatever to quit. Till the night i all of a sudden couldnt breath....3 days in intensive care...5 more days in hospital...everything but a ventilator......now disabled, on 02 and barely feel my feet....i started smoking when the companys were still saying not addictive.....wrong.
