I love "Planet Caravan" too! It's easy for me to understand Chris Alo not liking it, because from what I've seen on SOT, I don't think he is into very mellow, jazzy, spacey music. However, for people who are *actually into* spacey jazz like me, "Planet Caravan" is a gem! It's a stylistic outlier on a classic heavy metal album, but what a very cool outlier!

The Cars' Candy-O was almost the perfect album even slightly over their debut which I also adore but Lust For Kicks sounds like a throwaway that could've been on a Porky's soundtrack or something where the band was bored to tears one day and their producer had to force one on them to complete the album.

Takeaways from tonight's episode: 1. Chris A. and Chris C. in the house to form the "Trio of Doom" 2. Short and sweet episode - Where's Butch when you need him? 3. You know something is wrong when your parents start singing the song you're listening to... 4. Excellent Klaus Meine impersonation by Chris C. 5. "At least there's one song I know I can take a pee break" 6. "...I got a bladder like a six year old" 7. Perfectness lies in the eyes and ears of the beholder" 8. "I love 'em, but I love shitting on 'em" 9. "It's that chorus that makes me want to put my head in a meat grinder" On the topic I agree with "I think I'm going bald" from the most excellent Rush album "Caress of Steel" I would add the Scorpions album "Animal Magnetism" I think Scorpions do power ballads as well if not better than any other metal band but to my ears "Lady Starlight" is a real shitter... Another would be the great Aerosmith album "Rocks" I always skip the last song "Home Tonight"

You're right about Excitable, but there's maybe four to five other songs on there to ruin the album, with a considerable nod to Rocket. The worst half of it can be used as torture music. I've seen people praise that album over Rick Allen's heroic comeback and then have the most involuntary facial expressions when the bad songs come in. So, since I have not started watching this, I'll say 3 songs that always come to mind: "Quest for Fire" on Maiden's Piece of Mind. AC/DC's "Get it Hot" - I always (since I was 11) felt that song was not on the same level of the other 9 tracks on Highway to Hell. Another one would be Neil Young's "There's a World" on Harvest. They fuck what were supposed to be perfect albums.

The headache-inducing track "Who Dunnit? is the stinker on Genesis' ABACAB album. The story is that Atlantic Records head Ahmet Ertegun personally intervened to make sure it remained on the record - - only Allah knows why! The band could have replaced it with the beautiful "You Might Recall" or the eerie "In The Air Tonight" (Phil Collins originally offered the song to the band, but inexplicably they did not think it suited the album, so it was relegated to Collins' solo album debut). My pick Invaders from No of the beast. When i fist heard this album and its the opening track I thought here we go the difficult 3rd album which bands make that always seems to be tricky because often they have written enough the fill the first two then they are left to come up with new songs for the third. But then comes Children of the Damned and the rest making it a great album, possibly one of their best in the 80s. What a relief! Invaders was self penned by Steve Harris. Often wondered could it have been a leftover from Killers which doesnt really fit with Number?

I know "Changes" is almost universally despised on here. Chris rags on Ozzy over this song. Some thoughts: (A) Ozzy married his first wife in '71 and they did not divorce until '82. (B) VOL.4 was released in 72(C) Geezer was the primary Sabbath lyricist. I dont think the song has anything to do with Ozzys wife. I don't mind the song, just not everytime I hear the album....

- 'Do You Close Your Eyes' from Rainbow's "Rising". In an otherwise very forward-thinking album, this one sounds like a reject from the debut. Also, I still don't know what "Do you close your eyes when you're making love" means. - 'Take On All the World' from "Hell Bent For Leather". A slog of a song on an otherwise very successful attempt at making a more streamlined version of music that Judas Priest made before. I feel like 'United' from "British Steel" was a better attempt at this anthem formula. - 'Make Time for Love' from Warlock's "Triumph & Agony". Not terrible, I've certainly heard worse attempts at ballads, but it's rendered unnecessary considering that the album already has a better ballad at the end of the album, 'Für Immer'. - 'Dance of the Dandy Hound' from Skyclad's "Silent Whales of Lunar Sea". My favorite Skyclad album, and I love every song, but they decided to "gift" us with a "bonus" song at the end that's nothing but bad bluegrass, hoedown music that makes 'Benny the Bouncer' sound like a masterpiece. Thankfully, it's only a bonus track, so it's at least easy to ignore.

I am fully expecting a (positively tinged) "Rant" episode featuring Alo and Skow to discuss Ozzy's return to the stage for The Commonwealth Games closing ceremony. I would propose that this was a highly significant event in UK culture, which, in the past, commonly regarded anything "metal" as untouchable and uncouth and marginalised it accordingly. Yes, Ozzy is now a 'celebrity', but this music would never have been represented at such a prestigious and historic UK event in years gone by. It's a long way from "My sister's a greaser". Mr. Osbourne should also be applauded for the strength, tenacity and determination he displayed in managing to not say "fuck".

When it comes to Gary Moore's "Falling In Love With You", Pete, I think you might have been listening to the remixed version which is certainly more of an 80s-style synth-heavy pop ballad, not sure if that was the version you got for the U.S. release. The original version released in the U.K is a straight-ahead slow blues number which is very much in the blues style that would become Moore's trademark later on in the 90s. I would check out that blues version and it might change your mind about the song.

Moonchild off In The Court Of The Crimson King. The first few minutes are alright but then it turns into 9 more minutes of meandering nothingness. I'm not sure if they were struggling to fill the album or not, if so they could've put their version of Holst's Mars on there that they were playing live at the time (which they later reworked for The Devil's Triangle on In The Wake Of Poseidon).
