Searching for FREE Camping In Cottage Country - Northern Ontario Canada Vanlife - Part 1

Some footage from a trip to see two friends get married! This area of Northern/Central Ontario is a little more cottage country than crown land but join me as I try to squeeze the Astro down some ATV trails and find some free camping! There are 0 hits on iOverlander in this area, probably for good reason.
I have a ton of footage from this trip 5+ hours of footage to edit so stay tuned and hit that subscribe button! spoiler alert I do end up finding some pretty epic spots!

Second round of #vanlife here, I got my feet wet in a '01 Pontiac Montana in 2015 and here I am back in 2022 building out my second van!
I predict van/rv dwelling and nomadic living is going to be a large part of the future and I'm here for it.
Expect mostly van and adventuring content, but occasionally other topics and interests and always open to requests!

Not sure if this adventure is everyone's ☕ I was blindly exploring an area I was unfamiliar with and was having trouble finding somewhere camp worthy, Things pick up in part 2 😁Thanks for watching and appreciate any feedback!!

Thanks! and you got that right, same problem here in Southern Ontario.. the salt and winters were not good to these vans that's for sure. Beautiful country up there, appreciate the comment!

I had an issue with my ac and it turned out it was a loose connection from driving on bumpy roads. I just disconnected the power to the clutch cleaned it and reconnected....whaaalaaa cold ac.

Ok here's what I do. I keep a couple dollar store window screen kits and a few rolls of magnetic strip 'tape' in the van. Drape it over the open window and secure with the tape {or their crappy magnets}. A few strips around the outside, you don't have to go crazy. Goes on or off in a minute and no mosquitos will get through.

Thank you they appreciate it! It was an awesome time, was at "Foot Prints" a choose your own adventure style resort/cottage, very neat setup and cool place! haha Yes! When the weather turns is when the real camping season starts! wont be long now and the seasonal campers will pack it in 😁 Happy trails! 😊

@@alwaysgoodinthewoods Yes! Summer campers gone and kids in school - love March, April, May, June, September, October, November alone time (dogs and I wear orange in the fall for the hunters). Ahhhhh peaceful.

Just a heads up for everyone - I'm in the Napanee-Sharbot Lake-Gananoque triangle. I was out camping/hiking for a week and picked up a tick and got Lyme Disease. I used spray, swam/washed daily, bagged clothes before setting up tent -- those buggers are just so plentiful and freaking small. My dogs are vaccinated and on brevecto and checked them before bringing them into the tent. Can't check yourself good enough so have someone help check if you can. I didn't realize I had lyme until I started getting "bruises " all over (didn't get the bullseye marks), felt like my muscles were being pulled off my bones and getting a glass of water required a nap (sooo tired). Take care out there.

Ooo no! 😯 Hope you are recovered/recovering! that sounds rough! hope the camping was enjoyable before the unfriendly visitor! I have been getting warning pamphlets in the mail for ticks with my fishing license the last few years, and hearing of them more and more, even here in southern Ontario. It's been a crazy year for bugs in general, they say all the rain is also contributing. Good points! Always a good idea to check each other and our furry friends post hike/walk in the bush and be sure there are no "hitch hikers" 😅

@@alwaysgoodinthewoods Thanks! 3 weeks of antibiotics and 3 sets of blood tests (and another next week) seems to have done the trick. Heard of cases in southeastern Ontario ending up in hospital this summer though 😔. Took the seats out of my grand caravan and put in a bed, clothes storage, kitchen (wish I could put in electrical like yours) and use it until nights are above 65 C - then it's hiking. This summer was a blow out though. Read the pamphlets, use the advice, spray everything - didn't help me but one tick probably came in the tent off my black lab and I didn't find it (other dog is blond so easier to find ticks on him).
