Wow...Portland and Seattle have the best fans ever. Wish I could've been there with them, they seem to enjoy every minute of the game. They really support their teams. MLS is going forward, growing and not looking back.

Drove down from Seattle and I have to say something: Portland has a beautiful stadium and fans that are completely on par with Seattle's great fans. There was heckling everywhere, from both sides, but the spirit and attitude was so positive and well-spirited. You could tell everyone was just thrilled so see an American soccer rivalry of this caliber on a sunny day with an exciting atmosphere and a game that lived up to its expectations. MLS needed these teams and fans.

Best fans in MLS are from Portland and Seattle. I'm a Galaxy fan, but I have to admit these teams' fans are the best. Feel like if i'm watching a Premier League game when I watch either of these teams. They are so involved every minute of the game from beginning to end. MLS making more progress every year, love watching the games especially when GALAXY and these two teams play. SUCH A GREAT ATMOSPHERE IN THE STANDS!

MLS really need such rivalries. I'm from Europe and support NAC Breda FC from the Netherlands. But when i see this i want instantly come next season do some groundhopping and watch this rivalry. Good singing, a lot of passion. Support getting better and better in America about soccer/football!

I am a big fan of Association/International football and have been very happy to see the MLS grow. It's attracting more and more world class talent and more importantly more fans. My city (NY) is set to get its second MLS franchise. It's a partnership between the Yankees (a pro baseball team) and Manchester City. We are finally starting to see a real supporter culture here too. I really believe that this is the time people will look back on when talking about when Football finally arrived.

the crowd, the way both teams play and these 2 teams were rivals! am glad Football (its mostly how the world recognizes this sport international) is developing in the U.S. maybe someday the U.S can prove everyone else the MLS will reach potential...hoping for more teams to participate in the MLS like from St. Louis, Detroit, Minnesota, Ohio and Indiana....but let's see what this season brings...

I think I remember reading somewhere that Seattle has the highest percentage of college graduates per 1000 residents in the USA. I guess in a manner of speaking you could call them the smartest people in America. Being the smartest people = recognizing true beauty. Recognizing true beauty = recognizing what is the most beautiful and precious game of all. thus the explanation of Seattles love for world football, regardless of what its peers wrongly think is better (gridiron).

I don't think people in US realise sometimes that crowds such a 17,000 are pretty good. Teams like Wigan draw a crowd in like that but most think that's pr for a Premier League game. But they have to compete with the likes of United, City and other low league clubs because there all in Manchester. Whilst MLS teams have a team per city :) if you get me. But can't take anything away from the fact that 39,469 for a US football team is nothing but amazing.

I like the fact that Americans are starting to really get passionate about the sport, the MLS is a young league and still has a way to go, but from what I have seen. It seems to be getting better

Good win for the Sounders and I'm glad to see Montero back. Portland's got another couple years before they can compete with the rest of the MLS, but they should be able to. The ECS and the Timbers Army are the best supporter groups in the MLS.

thankyou! people dont realize the mls has only been around for less than 20 years. EPL has been around for more than a century. to say that we have come this far in this little time. means that in due time we will be able to compete with the top leagues in the world. especially when we start paying top dollar for the best quality players, and if we can be successful in getting the mls on national tv more.

There are 2 of them in SoCal. Florida use have a couple (Tampa Bay and Miami) in the earlier days of the MLS but both were cut by the MLS when they went to 12 teams to 10.

If you look at the Atmosphere here at JELD-WEN field, it is soo energetic, lively, just an increadible atmosphere, in my opinion its better than most european matches that i've seen

so hard to say. I went to the Nou Camp in Febuary and the atmosphere was unbelievable. 100,000 came even at -4. Dortsmund's atmosphere sounds like something from the movie 300. Wouldn't want to be an away team at their ground. But any Eastern European country takes football like religion. They love it and they stand up, sing through the whole game and show their passion. I support Tranmere Rovers from English league 1. Search Tranmere Vs Notts county + Tranmere Vs Preston (beckhams 1st club)

Well, there is nowhere in the USA that loves soccer like Portland and Seattle do but those are the closest ones that come to mind and I'm basing this mainly on their supporter groups, not necessarily crowd size.

MLS is starting to shape up. Good to see some soccer love from NA. What do you guys think of doing a "straight" series? Face all teams twice, once at home once away with no playoffs + relegation where top teams from lover divisions get promoted into the top series and bottom teams in 1's division get relegated to second division.

I am English.Personally I think the MLS is very good and would say its the fastest improving league in the world.Teams like La Galaxy or NY red bulls may never be on par with Manchester United , Arsenal or Chelsea, but are already on par with some of our premier league sides in the middle of the table.Watching the game I thought that the Sounders are on par with English Premiership teams like Wigan ,QPR, newcastle or West Brom.

That was a great game to watch, and a huge win for the Sounders! Montero's free kicks are AMAZING, plain and simple. If he continues to play like that, I'll be happy. Rosales' assist on the 2nd goal was also amazing! The red card at the end was meh, he did win the ball. But, I read that it was for preventing Neagle from scoring. So definitely PK. And I can't complain that the Sounders beat Portland!! =P

Seattles Sounders 39,469 average crowd in 2012 is very impressive, even compared to the big european leauges! Why is football (soccer) so popular in that city? Great atmosphere in Portland too.
