Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an American fantasy television series created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg for Disney+, based on the book series of the same name by Riordan.[1] Walker Scobell stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.
Development on the series began by May 2020, following a pitch by Riordan to Disney Branded Television. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were announced as showrunners in July 2021, with James Bobin hired to direct the first episode in October. Scobell was cast in the lead role in January 2022, with Jeffries and Simhadri joining the cast in May. By September, Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson were also set to direct multiple episodes of the series. Filming began in June 2022 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and concluded in February 2023, with additional cast members revealed throughout 2022 and 2023.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered on December 19, 2023, on Disney+, with the first season consisting of eight episodes. The series received positive reviews from critics, who largely praised its faithfulness to the source material, the worldbuilding and the performances of the cast, with many deeming it better than the 2010-2013 film series.

literally, like i'm only 21 and i've got older parents who introduced me to all the classic movies and songs. i shouldn't be feeling this old but it hit me like "damn, these kids would think i'm ancient"

The Percabeth dynamic just keeps getting better with every episode, the show is doing such a good job of building it up. I'm honestly still surprised at how much they're leaning into it this early but Walker and Leah are selling it so well. I was really impressed with them in this ep Also I completely forgot Timothy Omundson (Lassie from Psych) was playing Hephaestus in this show so seeing him was a pleasant surprise. Glad to see he's doing okay after having a stroke a few years back ❤

I don't know why everyone seems to think Annabeth can't swim. The water was visibly moving very fast and she was wearing a jacket and boots, and she has braids which get very heavy when soaked in water. So she has all of that weighing her down in rushing water. She grew up next at a summer camp on a canoe lake so I seriously doubt Annabeth can't swim. I love your reactions btw, I hope this doesn’t come off as angry :)

I actually looked up Grover's three favorite wars. The Turbot War, between Canada and Spain, over fishing rights; the Lobster War, between Brazil and France, also over fishing rights, and the 335 Years War, between the Netherlands and some Scilly islands off the coast of England, was some leftover business from the English Civil War.

*this comment is for people who have read the books, spoilers below* My guess is that Grover figured out who ordered the bolt stolen, not who actually stole it. This is around the time when Annabeth started suspecting Kronos herself in the books, though she never discussed it with Percy and Grover. And Ares was just talking about Kronos, so it makes sense that that could jog Grover's mind on the possibility. That way we get to see the kids make progress on figuring everything out without having to ruin the plot twist at the end regarding who actually stole the bolt.

i think the writers’ intention is to make us suspicious of grover 🧐🧐🧐 and knowing 🧐🧐🧐 what i know 🧐🧐🧐 i think this is kind of a genius narrative choice 🧐🧐 and anyway i love that he is not the stereotypical “best friend who has a big heart but is kind of a dummy” a la ron weasley but instead he’s kind of a manipulative little shit 😆 ilysm grover OOOOOOH GOLLY THE ROAD’S GETTING BUMPY-

I have to admit as someone who read the books, I am liking the small changes their making yes its not a hundred percent what happened but honestly the meeting with ares and the tunnel of love were done really plus the lotus casino is going to be very interesting.

I love your reactions! ❤ Question: would you consider changing the rectangle showing the content (I don't know what it's called) to the right side of the screen? Or maybe to the upper portion? It's just that English is my second language (I believe it's yours too 😊), and I usually watch things with subtitles. With the rectangle on the lower left side, the subtitles go exactly over the images, so I either turn them off and don't understand some of what's being said, or I turn them on and can't really see the show or movie. 😬 I understand if it's too much trouble, though. Thank you either way! 😊

You can drag KZfaq subtitles around by left-clicking on the subtitle text and just dragging it to a more convenient location. I guess you've watched all these reactions by now, but maybe it will help you when watching future videos.

spoilers for future percy jackson books Probably not. Would be really cool but i don’t think they would have casted them yet. Also it took disney+ ages to release this season so i think it’s gonna be quite a few years before we get to s3. Poor kids would be adults by that time lol

As a non book reader i wasn't totally understanding why they were so willing to sacrifice themselves to the chair for some dumb shield. Ares' main thing was offering to expedite the quest in return for his shield. They agreed on the deal because it would expedite the quest. When faced with sacrificing one of them, wouldn't they just call off the deal at that point?? They just went all kamikaze post-haste 😅.

They had about a week to finish their quest. And well, how long do you think it would take them to walk to Santa Monica? (answer: longer than a week). Let’s just say they were pretty desperate considering they couldn’t take any transportation because they were viewed as criminals, so a god helping them was their best bet, especially considering that probably nobody else would help them (considering that Percy is thought to be the lighting thief)

@@StellaLoreley all that is true, but...em....I'd try sneaking....even stealing....before letting my friend enter eternal imprisonment lol. I feel like the chances are really low that they *couldn't* either sneak into or steal a vehicle and arrive on time (gta ftw). P and A made the decision as if they knew there'd be no real consequences (and there wasn't lol), so the drama felt premature, I kept thinking "so, don't? Just go? Try something else?" I think maybe the show didn't stress the reliance of getting Ares' help enough, because I could think of many many ideas as alternatives that didn't involve human sacrifice! Wigs, even🤷‍♂. Would get them on a train without being recognized, plus they could pay with cash to leave no trace. They could also pay someone to drive them in their personal car (while disguised). They could also go gta like I mentioned, or have snuck into the back of a semi on their own using Annabeth's invisibility cap (holy crap, that would actually be SO easy haha. They have the power of invisibility on tap. ) PS. self-sacrifice was also done well in last week's episode. I wanted something new as well but it was the only thing in this episode.

Oh, and also as a first-time watcher I don't know who Ares is or wether he'll keep his word. When they get back with the shield he may just say "bye suckers" and scoot. They couldn't stop him he's a god. Then Percy would be down there. Forever. For nothing.

@@JJ_6036 I mean, first of all, this didn’t happen in the books (they did confront a trap, just not this one. And let’s just say both would have been imprisoned in the book one), second: they are twelve, the cops would notice children driving, and third, yeah, I agree with you, the show should have explained the importance in getting Ares’ help (also, from what you know in the book and in the show, he’s the god of war, so he’s not exactly trustworthy)
