Seawind Catamaran Sailing in 30 Knots

On the 15th January sailed from Batam Island to Singapore in 30 Knots of wind with 3 Reefs in the main surfing of speeds up to 12 knots while trying to dodge the heavy flows off Shipping trafficking through the Straights on a 800 mile delivery trip of a Seawind 1160 Catamaran to Singapore from Vietnam with Richard Ward & Crew.

Cool but would have improved the video to kill the music and let us hear ocean and sailing sounds...

+Rick Byham , Hi Rick , thanks for the feedback, will try and get better sailing sounds on some of the next videos, unfortunately I was using a go pro & gimbal and the sound was pretty bad with the 25 to 30 knots of wind , would had better results using my DSLR camera with a hotshoe mike and wind cover , next time

The 1260 or perhaps the newest 1170 would be two good options

-12 knots its too litle with 30 knots wind

Is this an 1160? I am thinking of buying one, and curious about how she handles rough seas. I have heard that there is a lot of slap from a low freeboard.... Thoughts?

Hi Jeff, yes the videos are of the 1160. Anyone who says they have a lot of underwing slap has not sailed on the boat. We sailed from Vietnam to Singaopore with no issues and Seawinds are sailed regularly on the east coast of Australia with no issues.

Excellent video! May I ask what were the sea conditions like? Looks like you had a couple reef in? Must have been flying!

Hi, We started out with 3 reefs due to the fact that we were sailing in a busy shipping lane and often had to move over and alter course for the large ships (Ships do not give way to sail) , sea state was 2 to 3 m seas, 32 knots max gusts abating to 20 knots as we neared Singapore and calmer seas once away from the Straits Shipping Channel and NE Monsoon Winds.

+Andreas M , Hi Andreas, have found the best results when sailing is actually using a gimbal system as this negates the shaking action of the boat. You can get a go pro gimbal system these days for around USD300, the model I am using is the Feiyu G3 3-Axis Gimbal
