Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios this 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?

Just ''buy the dip'' man. In the long term it will payoff. High interest rates usually mean lower stock prices, however investors should be cautious of the bull run, its best you connect with a well-qualified adviser to meet your growth goals and avoid blunder

Very true, you can be passively involved in the markts and still amass wealth-gains using an investment advisor. I first dabbled in stocks late 2019, just before the pandemic, and that same year gained over 150% with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was following directions of my advisor. We are working on a retirement ballpark of $3m and I’m certain my goal isn’t farfetched after subsequent investments and tremendous returns so far.

Okay. If Adani is bad, then who should be building our infrastructure? The govt? We already have high debt and fiscal deficit. Adani's debt will get added to the govt's balance sheet. And then if by bad luck we get Congress in power (touchwood), all hell will break lose with the khatakhat schemes. These groups like Hindenberg are taking advantage of our desperation to grow, and making money by playing games with us. Now, Adani has recovered the share prices. But Indian investors put their money into it. That money could have spurred consumption. Meanwhile, Kingdon made billions of dollars from this, that could have remained as part of Adani's market cap, with no need of new investor money going into it. Let's not be our own enemies merely out of suspicion.

Adani does not have strong financial practices. Rather, Hindenburg has a strong record of researching and exposing shady companies. Besides, Adani's shenanigans have been reported in some detail--this included even a book!--for several years now well before Hindenburg's report. If something should not be allowed, it is the brazen and relentless stock manipulation indulged by Adani especially since Modi became PM. Please listen carefully to what Sucheta Dalal is saying--the numbers and data are there for all to see

@@studyonline4763 I am not defending the Adanis . However, the fact remains the Hindenburg report was used to bring down the share price by short selling and to make obscene profits. Two wrongs do not make it right. The question I am raising is how is this type of manipulation of the prices allowed? The arguments against Adanis are that they had a greater than acceptable percentage of shares within the control price of the promoters. This led to short supply of shares and inflated prices. They are not the only set of promoters, globally, who indulge in practices to shore up stock prices. However, an investor can protect himself by checking if the share price is a true reflection of its value. That is what Dalal speaks about when she talks of P/E ratios etc However, a short seller, based on reports, which are not public, is allowed to sell shares at higher price, then publicise his research , cause stocks value to decline and buy the same shares at lower prices and make a profit. This is actually the best way to shake investor confidence in the markets

Please correct yourself. Hindenburg is the counter party not the "Messenger".... Hindenburg and its clients has monetary interest in this case.... Adani loses Hindenburg gains or Adani gains Hindenburg loses.

Nothing of that sort. When a particular corporate, who happens to be the PM's best buddy and perhaps puppeteer, is allowed to flout laws and regulations brazenly, the country loses. Adani's shenanigans have been reported for years now well before Hindenburg, and are in full sight of anyone who knows an iota of the capital markets.

Historically Regulators in India ( to a few exceptions like TN Seshan, Erstwhile Konkan Railway, Kurien of Amul, forget the name of upright BMC commissioner earlier etc ) have the uncanny knack of tripping head over heels by themselves on the nudge and wink of their political masters adroitly subserviently as if they owe their existence authority and responsibility completely unashamedly only to whims and fancies of their masters and their cronies forgetting they occupy the position enjoy the accompanying perks to enforce public good in letter and spirit for Janta Janardhan and not to ignore, obfuscate , delay and settle cases after many many years for a few dollars more, no questions, no acceptance settlement awards . Such wilful dereliction of duties of the regulators cheats Bharat and Bharatiyas, and opens the pandora box of pain and suffering according the Supreme Law of Karma on themselves and families in future by their actions. A key question to me is whether Hindenberg is a messenger OR a manipulator of numbers in the hands of some anti-India forces. I don’t know the truth, hence cannot discount the possibility based on their past actions.

I don't say SEBI is right but Hindenberg is also equally wrong. You seem to be biased towards Adani. I don't know who lost money but many made money on downside as well as upside. That way atleast loss was 3 lack crores the upside is 5 lac crores. Enjoy the fun of stock market on upside and downside..

It is very clear that the report was a hit job paid by some anti India forces. If the objective was to make money from shorting then US Banking should have been the target. However it was a far away Indian company with solid assets. Short seller is messenger? Good joke. Hindenburg clearly had vested interest he had made some money during fall of Adani share prices. Your PE ratio argument does not hold good as in today’s market we have some sector PE of 4 and some have 50 and even some have 100. So how can PE will be uniform for Adani and Reliance ?
