I came back to watch this since the first time never really made sense. Now I understand that we are talking spark kv and not the turn on or power kv. Wish I had an early Vantage. Nice work, thanks!

Baxrok2 hi you have vantage pro with ignition scope built in. You have same option in digital form on your tool. I will be glad to talk to you if you want. I can send you my email

Baxrok2 this is easy test to do. Spark KV is voltage needed to start a spark. At idle compression and AF mixture doesn't change and there is no reason for spark KV change. If spark KV does change its because spark is happening outside of combustion chamber. Hope this make sense. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Yes, I know the Vantage Pro will do this. However, I would still like to have one of these older Vantage units. As you point out, they can still be very useful. Also, they are somewhat of a collectors item. I've been watching one on eBay but think I'm going to save my money for a PicoScope. Thank you sir!

this is a good video for those familiar with osciloscope use but not for beginners. where did you hooked up the long wire what is the spec for a spark plug voltage what means the ups in the graph when you shaked the wire? Not very useful for a low knowledge. Thanks guy.

I have the MT2400 but not that module u put on the back. That is sweet. On the hold feature, can u go back? I don’t think so. What’s cool about the MT2400 is that it is so light and compact. Plus it has the recommended test features. Most of the Troubleshooter features. I think mine goes up to 2002. Not sure.

Wrench life 604 hi I am using vantage 2400 KV module attaches to back of this unit. For leads I am using Snapon secondary ignition probe hooked to ignition wire.

is there a rule of thumb for the spark kv value ? I see your good example fluctuated a bit, from .2kv to .4kv.

Joseph Quattrocchi anything over 2KV at idle is potential problem

Joseph Quattrocchi not many people use this unit any more because of new lab scopes. I like this test it is simple and I still don't know how to read burn time to menu variables. Spark KV is always affected outside of combustion chamber bad plugs or wires. Thank you for watching and have fun fixing cars. Cheers
