Tinnitus VA disability claims are not going away and neither are secondary VA claims to tinnitus. The VA rates symptoms, and the VA will figure out which Diagnostic Code to rope the symptom under for a compensable rating.

When I did my hearing/ tinnitus c&p, I did the tones, then speech and they also stuck a device that puffed air onto my eardrums. I got rated at 10% tinnitus and 10% hearing loss.

I went to the va hospital and they diagnosed me with hearing loss and tinnitus. Can I use this to file a claim and will I have to get tested again at the c&p?

FYI: 21 year ret vet here. Back in the day, when I went to sick call some time I was to reffed to a specialist And that specialist was “air force, navy, marine doctor’s Before I filed my claim I went my local airforce base and got a copy of my medical history ( 2 or 3 treatments) Bottom line don’t forget if you received treatment outside your branch

I have 10% tinnitus, 0% hearing loss (even though the VA issued my hearing aids) and I receive sleep apnea care from the VA and I was was denied a secondary claim for sleep apnea. I had a doctor write a Nexxus letter for the sleep apnea, but that didn't help and just like you mentioned, they denied me because "Service connection for sleep apnea is denied since this condition neither occurred in nor was caused by service. (38 CFR 3.303, 38 CFR 3.304)" It's sad that we have to jump through so many hoops and I am writing a letter to my Congressman to see what they can do. After this, my only remedy is to hire a lawyer. Also, I was denied my vertigo claim simply because I didn't have a Nexxus letter.

I have service connection for Tinnitus and got DX with Migrane associated vertigo and got 2nds for Migranes and Vertigo through Tinnitus....it is possible...Keep trying if your experiencing Migranes and vertigo with your Tinnitus

OohRah Canon Cocker! I was with HQBTRY, 11th Marines during peacetime, and 1st Bn, 11th Marines, 1st MarDiv, 1st MEU, 1st MEF during Desert Storm/Shield! I wasn't on the line, (I was a Comm Tech), but I spent time on the line. I don't think it was my line exposure that got me Tinnitus, it was listening to tones, noise and static while diagnosing and repairing radios all day. Mine is ongoing 24/7 and really gets bad when I am in a quiet room... then it gets almost excruciatingly loud! I have to keep something, some sort of noise happening at all times, otherwise I will go insane! They did give me 10% for it, but it didn't really mean much because I got 100% SC T&P with SMC-S for other things, plus an additional 70% for PTSD.

@@livelife8739 To be honest, I simply filed them as secondary to tinnitus and explained to the C&P examiner that my tinnitus had gotten worse and that it was causing me to have regular migraines. You must remember... the frequency and severity of the migraines plays a large part in the rating percentage. Also, you need to prove that it creates problems with your job if you have one.

@@livelife8739 Migranes are well established through medical evidence stemming from Tinnitus and Vertigo as well.....I didn't have a nexus.......The examier estabilshed the connection

Tinnitus is caused by hearing loss. How often do you see a Vet awarded for Tinnitus, and denied for hearing loss. I always wonder how you can be SC for one, but denied for the other.

If it goes through as proposed, the issue is how tinnitus would be handled if the veteran does not have a disabling hearing loss per 38 CFR 3.385 or other disability to associate the symptom with. Many grants of tinnitus are free-standing associated with military noise exposure/acoustic trauma and not associated with underlying disability. As proposed, this type of service connection would no longer be supported. The other part is that tinnitus rated with hearing loss would only be 10% if the hearing loss is noncompensable (0%); the moment hearing loss itself warrants 10% or more the tinnitus is no longer a factor. By comparison, someone with 10% for tinnitus under the current schedule would have that percentage combined with whatever percentage is assigned for hearing loss under 38 CFR 4.25. So big picture, if implemented as proposed, it would be far more restricted than existing regulations allow for and also affect combined evaluations which determine payment rates.

I have a 10% for vertigo but at the C&P exam, I guess I was alright so examiner probably turned me down after I left and which I received denied. I appealed it and second time to cp exam, same thing w diff doctor. So VA decided to give me 10% for it.. saying that I was just having dizziness but no staggering...This is gotta be so screw up by VA, when i get my vertigo, i experience both so how am i getting just 10% and its not like I will experience the symptoms exactly on the cp exam date...ridiculous!

Tinnitus = Migraines = Vertigo..... Im rated for tinnitus. Was diagnosed outside VA for Meneire's in 2008 denied was told no known Etiology for it. Maybe I have a chance with these changes.

VA diagnosed my Tinnitus Years later after being treated With drugs from va I was Scuba in Okinawa in 79. Blew my ear drum out, treated for 40 years migraines, Tinnitus, lil hearing loss, went to exam from filling claim i was shocked to read doc said all affirmed but not happen during service

I have a question. I am currently rated for a few things and among my rated conditions is Tinnitus, Insomnia, Hyperacusis, hearing loss and Depression. I was just recently denied for Migraines as secondary to Tinnitus. I had 2 Nexus letters , a diagnosis and my C&P examiner said I had Migraines that are directly connected to Tinnitus. The rater denied me because in his/her words they said there is conflicting evidence that Migraines can be caused or connected to Tinnitus. My VSO was shakey and said "Oh you cant connect migraines to Tinnitus". I was like "well you shouldve told me that . What should I do ??? There seems to be something dishonest going on. The rater is not educated on this matter and shouldve considered the totallity of my conditions and connected them to all of them . Please I need guidance. Thank you

@@TheCivDivmine hearing/tinnitus started years before I got out. What I don’t understand is my hearing got so bad that they had to re-baseline my hearing, yet would not service connect for hearing loss. The tinnitus started as a barely audible buzz and now it’s so loud it drowns out the sound of a jet engine when I have a wing seat. It’s a 2.5 to 3 kHz buzzing.

I disagree that if you do a direct service connect for migraines and they deny you, that you have to do a secondary to connect, if you have condition such as PTSD a higher level review should be sufficient when claiming an error in assist, because VA should be aware that any of your direct connected conditions that migraines can be secondary to, they should assist as is their duty.

@ELNino2001 I was rated 50% other stress disorder, 10% Tinnitus, 0% bilateral feet VA math total 60% in 2018. Then, under PACT ACT, I got rated 30% Asthma, 0% Rhinitus in 2022, VA math moved my rating from 60% to 70%. On June 13, 2024, under TERA, I was rated 50% for Migraines. back dated to Oct 24, 2023. VA math moved me from 70% to 90%. I was stopped loss for Desert Shield/Storm. 54B Chemical Operations Specialist. Ms. B

10% with tinnitus just got granted 70% with insomnia/unspecified depression disorder secondary to tinnitus. I had migraines as a secondary also but was given a 0%. I have given the va migraine logs along with a medication list, how else can I get a bump in that rating?

I was just recently denied migraine secondary to tinnitus and anxiety for the third time. I have provided everything that they asked for. Diagnosis, Nexus letter, migraine logs, multiple medications. I just can't wrap my head around what I am missing. This video does a good job of stating the importance of all of these puzzle pieces that are needed. I just got to figure out which piece I am missing.

It could be that your nexus letter may not be written properly or the link to service connection is missing something. I have only ever used the va for primary care so I can’t expound on or have knowledge on private dbqs and nexus letters. But, my migraines are so bad I have been to the emergency room several times before getting a diagnosis and I claimed migraines secondary to depression and anxiety and my c&p exam was a phone exam where they just asked me questions and I was awarded 50%. I havbeen to emergency room for my migraines and I have had blurred vision with it well after diagnosis and decision and I have my migraines static on my code sheet in less than a year of of the decision. If your symptoms are severe enough, maybe you need to go to the emergency room and get taken care of there and add that evidence to your claim.

What was your MOS? Check the MOS noise exposure list. If your MOS is in the ‘high probability’ column then u should be able to get it service connected.
