So if you don't pick her she will point out she's jealous in a joking way and then tease the opposite. It would be weird if Red XIII did this or Tifa, out of character. So no even if you don't date Aerith it's not about her. Rather whatever you do the characters in FF7R react consistently as they are written.

All the attention given to her, and she deserves all of it.

This is a great observation! To expand on it with my thoughts, literally every time, Aerith's affinity convos either advance the plot, are a lot more animated/involved, or BOTH. They also ALL are at least subtly or sometimes explicitly romantic. The first time in Kalm, it advances the plot and leads to a non-optional date (as Aerith refers to it, and Cloud doesn't dispute). Her convo in Junon is preceded by Cloud overhearing her and Red and getting concerned. An early sign of jealousy since she's to an "unknown" guy? And the best answer has HER getting jealous that he gave the flower to Tifa. She gets the extended walk on the beach in Costa del Sol, with Cloud later claiming in the "date" sidequest that he would like a lowkey date liking taking a walk together. In Gongaga her convo is after a non-optional scene about Zack and is followed by Cloud's huge jealous moment. In Cosmo Canyon her affinity convo is the ONE that is non-optional while you can ignore the others, and involves her looking to Cloud for support in a moment of weakness. And then finally in Nibelheim, you have a cornucopia of beautiful little moments. There's Aerith gently prying into Cloud's history with Tifa, there's Cloud choosing to tell her about the town a bit despite it seeming to mentally strain him, and then if you talk to her again Aerith follows it up by opening up about HER past, revealing her lonely childhood. And of course Cloud was willing to stay with her even if she was in a bad mood and took it out on him, but she didn't want to do that. Also notably all this happened on an iconic location for the rival ship. It's a bit funny that they gave Clerith this beautiful moment (or sequence of moments, really) on possibly *the* biggest Cloti landmark. Kinda dilutes how special it is for that ship. Which was maybe the point.

It would have made perfect sense to put Tifa's theme there given her connection to Nibelheim (and we're literally playing HER personal piano this time), but between the water tower and her theme, the devs were making real sure we couldn't forget about Aerith in this Tifa-centric place.

@@AlyssaJ14 The scene with Cloud and Aerith at Nibelheim water tower is enough to destroy Cloti for me. It's Cloud and Tifa's "sacred" place just like the church is Cloud and Aerith's place. If Cloti is the endgame or the canon then why did the devs put Aerith there? It would be so easy for them to make an intimate and romantic scene with Cloud and Tifa, where they climb the water tower after all these years, think about the time they spent together and become even closer. But instead they chose to put Aerith there. And if you compare the two scenes, the childhood promise with Tifa and the new scene with Aerith, in both scenes Cloud sits at exactly the same place while in the new scene Aerith sits at the exact place where Tifa used to sit. The symbolism is really strong. A young Cloud makes a childhood promise with a young Tifa while adult Cloud shares a bonding moment with adult Aerith. Cloud and Tifa is the past while Cloud and Aerith is the present.

Finally someone else noticed that Cloud and Tifa didn't almost kiss in Gongaga. I'm so tired of hearing this when like you said, Tifa goes in for the kiss and Cloud just stands there like a statue. Also during the sandstorm right before the Barret and Dyne part, Cloud shields Aerith from the sand and just lets Tifa do her thing. Again him trying to protect her. Aerith's also the only one that can break Cloud out of Sephiroth/Jenova's control. Everything from Aerith's character model, her animations, dialogue and all the unique quests/side quests she gets, all have way more effort put into them. My theory on why some people don't see Aerith as the canon choice is they've never tried to play the game without trying to woo Tifa. If you're always aiming for sexy time with Tifa the story makes no sense since it lacks the coherency required to understand the full story. You'll have a basic understanding at best.

The only problem I still see with Aerith would be that she may also influenced the timeline/multiverse as Sephiroth does. She is clearly aware of it. Or even Sephiroth slipping up his control of Cloud's emotion because he has feelings towards Aerith (which could exactly be his reason to kill her - to complete his ultimate goal there is no room for love)

Yeah I mentioned right before it that Tifa and Yuffie has kind of similar scenes. They're more so ones similar to the talking ones in FF16. The most work was put into the solo Cloud one though.

@@mlwjrpg just want to say, I totally understand if you're deleting some of my messages since I'm getting too aggressive about arguing with a certain guy. Sorry you have to see all that. Unfortunately there's no way to properly block someone on YT anymore but you can "hide" them so their comments won't show on your vids to you or anyone else. I found this out while desperately searching for a way to block someone, which doesn't exist anymore. I would have happily blocked the guy and moved on but unfortunately if I'm forced to see his comments (across multiple videos from different channels even!) I feel compelled to argue with him. :/ If you go to someone's channel page, then go to "more about this user" then to "report this user" there's a separate option to "hide" them (without actually reporting them, too, if you're worried about that). It's totally up to you, but I'd recommend hiding people repeatedly hating on your content so you and any Clerith fans don't have to see it. And yeah there are some people genuinely on the fence who are looking for clarification or debate who should probably be given a pass, but I think I've seen enough from that guy to confidently declare he's just here to put down the ship and anyone who likes it. I understand if you want to "hide" me even, though in my defense I'm not the one starting fights, just arguing against the guy who is. I love your content thus far!

I mentioned about that "scene" in the video actually. It's not exactly the same and is more like a typical npc conversation.

Naturally there were going to be some people that already know about this, that's fine. But a large amount of people actually didn't know. So need to get it out there for them

They are actually two different scenes and same when with Yuffie as well.

It's "cinematic" for like the first 4 seconds then it goes to basic conversation style similar to FF16.

As long as the story delivers we're good to go.

He says "wait for me" If you remember in Advent Children she says that the most important thing is that "he came for her" and Marlene says in Rebirth (more or less the same way in French/English/Japanese) when she describes Aerith's death "She is really happy that Cloud came" I'm not Japanese speaker I saw some comment of people doing a literal translation and for those I watched, it matches with the French one. As you, I noticed that she has the same posture as the one she has in the burial scene in the OG (her hands on her chest) but when Cloud comes back and ask her to wake up she has the same posture she has currently in her bed in the Terrier timeline. theorizing give me a headache lol

Also, Rebirth in JP has the same katakana with Reverse リバース on SE’s official site. Coincidence? Maybe, but I find it interesting.

Nope this scene is 80% unique, similar versions play with Yuffie as date or Tifa, but they aren't the same and are more like NPC like conversations.

Partially, yes. If Cloud is with Tifa: She says something about their friendship, then a section is the same as the video until the end with “I’m jealous and I wanna hang out with someone” “STOP IT”. The cinematography is different from the video, but the dialogue is mostly the same. If Cloud is with Yuffie: It’s a completely different scene and dialogue where Aerith teases if this was a date and Cloud goes “Absolutely not!” repeatedly If Cloud is alone: The scene in the video appears and the difference is additional animation and cinematography. Essentially Aerith gets multiple variations of interactions as a cutscene depending on who Cloud is with. I believe that’s not the case for the other girls who only get one unique scene if a different girl is with Cloud, but people are free to correct me if I’m misremembering.

You might want to go back and rewatch the scene with Tifa and Yuffie btw, odd you left her out. But the scenes are all different, sure some similar lines. But the Aerith one alone was objectively the most fleshed out cutscene.

If we wanna make up conspiracies then Tifa fans can bring up the scene where Tifa and Cloud almost kissed in Gongaga after Tifa woke up from her Lifestream dip. You can even hear Yuffie behind the door hissing, "Kiss, kiss!" to them. But that doesn't matter either. The reality that some Aerith-stans seem to not get since the original game is none of these relationships are canon. It's based on YOUR PREFERENCE in YOUR GAME. That's why the dating game exists, and that's why arguing what the developers 'hint' at with their content is fundamentally stupid.

Aerith actually meets the real Cloud more often than other characters in the Remake and Rebirth. It seems that some people don't notice it or just don't want to notice it because it's more convenient for them

This might also be a good thing for Part 3 since I get the feeling allot of people might grab their pitch forks the moment they realize their ship wasn't represented in the game they bought even though it was never promised it would.

You are blind if you don't see ANY significance to ONLY Aerith getting a moment that is clearly meant to show Cloud is jealous of the thought of her finding someone else (his immediate reaction here is VERY similar to his jealous flare-up about Zack in Gongaga. But considering it's you I doubt you'll acknowledge he was even jealous there...) in a scene that only plays if you DON'T date her this chapter. Here's an easy comparison. Tifa's non-date convo this chapter is just a chill "oh hey Cloud. feeling better? This place is a bit overwhelming for me". Not a HINT of romance if you're not dating her. Meanwhile, whether Cloud is alone or with Tifa/Yuffie, Aerith playfully implies she should find someone to go around with (basically a date) which Cloud IMMEDIATELY shuts down because he doesn't like it. It's a knee-jerk jealousy response that he tries to cover up by "uh anyone could be a Shinra spy..." And I know that YOU will insist he means exactly what he says here and ISN'T jealous. But considering the difference between his FIRM "stop it" followed by a hesitation ("uh") and then his softer tone and averted eyes while he talks about a Shinra spy... he's lying. He's trying to save face after his feelings briefly took the wheel away from him. You can deny Aerith is the canon love interest if you really want. It makes you look ridiculous (and like a grade A jerk), especially when you insist on doing it HERE among a comment section full of people who LOVE the ship, but you're free to have your wrong opinion. What you CAN'T deny, because it should be obvious to anyone with eyes and a working brain, is that Aerith gets more love from the devs on the whole. Basically all of her optional content and choices are more substantial than the rest of the parties. Only Aerith gets a longer conversation in Costa del Sol where they walk together (and by the way, Cloud later expresses a preference for a "simple" date like "taking a walk" in the sidequest where you... literally go on a date with Aerith. But I bet you like to pretend that sidequest doesn't exist). Everyone else has a short conversation where both parties remain mostly in place. Only Aerith has a conversation that, again, involves GOING somewhere in Nibelheim. You follow her up the water tower (and I'm sure it must sting to have a nice moment with her in one of Cloti's iconic places. Dilutes how special it is for you) and despite the mental strain it seems to cause him, Cloud CHOOSES to open up to her about the town. Talk to her again and you get ANOTHER scene, with Aerith reciprocating and opening up to him about HER past. Only Aerith gets affinity convos that DIRECTLY TIE INTO THE PLOT, THREE TIMES in Kalm (where regardless of what you say, Cloud and Aerith go on a non-optional date (as she calls it and he doesn't dispute)) and Cosmo Canyon (where you can straight up IGNORE all the others but you HAVE to do hers and it involves her having a big speech where she pauses and looks to him for support in a moment of weakness), and Gongaga between two exposition scenes about Zack. You can deny any or all of these moments are romantic until you're blue in the face. It won't convince literally anyone, but feel free to waste your breath. What you CAN'T deny, because it is OBJECTIVELY TRUE, is that compared to the bonding moments with the rest of the party, Aerith's are LONGER and MATTER MORE to the plot. The devs put MORE effort and time into them and they are IMPORTANT, as evidenced by the fact that you can NEVER skip Aerith's affinity convos. A fact which isn't true for ANY other party member, including Tifa. You can't deny that at least. Please stop watching and commenting on Clerith vids out of spite. Surely there's a better way to kill time for you that makes you happy WITHOUT picking fights online.

They’re not even officially boyfriend and girlfriend. Zack is always described as Aerith’s first love (初恋) in every official media, the games and ultimanias. If they really were, it should’ve been described as 元カレ/元カノ (former boyfriend/girlfriend). Aerith is just the girl Zack likes the most, they had a puppy, platonic love as described on CC Ultimania. And it happened it THE PAST. Most importantly, Aerith doesn’t own Zack anything because of the reasons above. She has rights to love someone else after all these years and it happens to be Cloud. You only think of Zack that you ignore many hints in Rebirth that Zack himself accepts she has feelings for Cloud now. Zack takes it like a champ unlike you do. If you think Cloud and Aerith are gross, then you wouldn’t love Squall and Rinoa, either. 🤭
