Few players know it, but there is a specific building archetype in derelict settlements that can spawn a flashlight (torch). It always spawns at a specific spot within a building. You can pick it up, power it on/off, store it in your armor, use it as a stationary light source. It will persist in the ship if you drop it.
There is no dedicated animation to aim the flashlight, but you can use the "Inspect" option to rotate it and aim the light beam this way (you can also bind a key - "Inspect Item" , Keybinds - On Foot). This item can be potentially useful as an alternative to flares in caves. You can also bring multiple.
