Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your Host Paul and this video we're breaking down Secret Invasion Episode 6. The ending of the series is now upon us and throughout this video we're gonna be pointing out the easter eggs, comic book call backs and also giving our thoughts on the series as a whole. There's some good and bad things that the seasons done and I wanna give our thoughts on the whole thing.
Now last week was a pretty slow burn with us getting a couple of different plot threads setting up things for this entry. Gi'ah and Varra threw a funeral for Talos and he somehwat got his wish in the end. He wanted to show the president that Skrulls weren't a threat which he accomplished judging off the news reports.
Anyway Gi'ah and Varras part of the entry closed out with them having a shootout with Graviks forces. As for Gravik, he killed Pagon for being a Pagon and we learned his true plan. Alongside wanting to start world War 3 he was also trying to get something known as the harvest. Turned out Nick had collected the Avengers DNA and if I ever get super powers I'm completely f**ked. I wouldnt wish having to collect it on Gravik but yeah...entire room...full of it.

Going back to Avengers Endgame it kinda recontextualises Nick Fury's appearance and while he was at the funeral he probably had his agents out in the field picking up the sample.

In my house opinion I think every episode should have been 40 minutes shorter and shouldn't have happened at all. This show completely ruined the MCU. Disney will continue to lose billions. Women's superheroes don't sell. Luckily for them no one was watching the show. So they'll still be able to milk out a few more movies. Before they tear everything up and take a break and start from scratch.

I mostly agree with everything said here. The only thing I would add is that going forward, it feels like a major slap in the face to have lost Maria Hill and Talos for what essentially feels like nothing.

this show had so much potential and i really felt like it was too short & didn’t end well. the stakes weren’t high, but the cast was great. this episode really left me thinking “huh what? that’s it?” when it ended.

Judging by Rhodey wearing a hospital gown and having trouble walking, it would seem they are implying he was taken while still in rehab for his spinal injury.

I think Rhodes got replaced past Endgame. Probably during one of the times where he had to do another medical visit to see the progress of his legs (assuming it still wasn't fully functional during endgame). This is the best theory I got that doesn't affect what we've seen from post CACW

As much as I like G'Iah, I can't believe Fury just gave her all the powers of everyone involved in the Battle of Earth. I expected her to somehow get rid of the powers after defeating Gravik (like Pepper getting rid of Extremis at the end of Iron Man3), not for her to just walk away & do whatever she wants - she's possibly one of the most powerful characters in the entire MCU now

I'm kinda surprised how there's no mention in the series about how the Skrolls put in all this work to be accepted but it's the Asgardeans who got their own place on earth.

Thor was a well know hero and a saver of earth AND the king of Asgard after IW. Also Asgardians look just like us and aren’t super powered. (I know some of them are, but as far as we’ve seen your avarage joe Asgardian doesen’t have any powers. Skrulls’ powers are a direct threat to the human race. They threaten our very way of life.

I think it’s mainly because Thor is an avenger and the Asgardians look just like humans. So those two factors make them immediately way less intimidating than the skrulls

@@seizedigest8183 The problem is that the first court case in She Hulk is an Asgardian glamouring their appearance in order to take advantage of a human. But it’s a played for laughs. The enormous emotional dissonance between projects becomes a problem when they tackle similar plot beats like that.

I liked that clever little line where Fury tells the President “that’s some real one-term sh*t right there” , setting up Harrison Ford’s character to be president next.

I think the biggest problem is the lack of communication between writers and directors from different projects. The fans are busy looking for links and character arcs that crossover between shows and between movies. The writers either don’t know or don’t care what happened in other shows, so they don’t weave those connections in. When connections are found, they more often feel out of place because they were added after something else was released and filmed in reshoots. I think they need to slow down production so things are all filming at the same time. This would allow shows to build on each other naturally instead of having to wait 2-4 years for consequences for major events to be addressed,

Exactly, although don't care is more appropriate, as in the end, the whole point of being a professional in any arena is doing research as much as possible, which the writers and directors have admitted not doing on many of these DISNEY PLUS projects. From JAC SHAFFER(head writer of WANDAVISION) claiming not to know how to read comics to the writer of MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS claiming he did not even watch DOCTOR STRANGE or WANDAVISION - and let's not talk about NATE MOORE, head producer, claiming he did not want people who read the actual comics to work for him - in the end, this is what you get...lackluster material like SECRET INVASION.

@@m.hadley9121it really does come down to that aswell, I noticed after WV they stopped letting the heads of each project communicate and work on building their part of the phase, and yeah bringing on people who know nothing about the comics or past stories on screen in which their characters are a part of is uselesssss and I did not know that about Nate moore, I didn’t see that, sooo stupid! I didn’t mind Namor and a few slight changes but Talokan? Two heart shaped herbs? That amount of Vibranium outside Wakanda? No thank you, like Akoye I believe said, just wiped out centuries of history

The cast is totally stellar. The series just felt so CHEAP and small. You can almost see the accountants behind the camera saying "Cut to budget saving angle" or "No we don't need to show them as Skrulls, just leave them in Human mode". What might of been more interesting was to show Skrulls defecting from Fury to other governments or to show other bad guys using the Skrulls for their own ends and Fury realizing Humanity will just make them slaves to their own power plays and he has to make amends and get them out of this terrible situation he brought them into. For my money WandaVision and Loki are by far the best if the Disney+ MCU and everything else has been somewhere on the "meh" scale.

The finale was underwhelming. I thought they’ve could have done more to set up Captain America 4 and the Thunderbolts. They simply name dropped a bunch of characters past names. What special power did Drax display? Also they made G’yah way too powerful. I could under giving her certain powers, but 23 different powers?

Finale was kind of underwhelming or at least different than I expected… but doesn’t mean it was bad. But I gotta say that Olivia Coleman and Kingsley Ben-Adir’s performances really stood out to me and made the show, hope we see more of Sonya Falseworth in the MCU… would be interesting to see her stand up to Val at some point

If Rhodey is still paralyzed going into Brave New World and the Armor Wars, that's a bit of a letdown. I really thought Marvel would just take the safest bet and say Rhodey got replaced in Falcon & Winter Solider to avoid spitting on his character. Now Rhodey presumably has no idea that the Sokovia accords have been repealed, Thanos' strikes against Earth and Tony's death. Rava has to be the greatest Skrull actor of all time for making those tears look so convicting. A similar thing about Everett Ross regarding if he's still going to be close with Wakanda, we still don't know if it was really him or a Skrull when Val said that she wanted Wakanda's vibrainium resources.

Sonya making a deal with G'iah telling her to "leave love and friendship out of this" is a powerful statement, because while trying to complete a mission love is an emotion/feeling that can really get in the way of success, that's why in some work environments the employees aren't allowed to get into relationships with each other.

I think that the studios generally need a wake-up call. This show likely went into production well before major concerns started gaining momentum with the writers' guilds, but it is clear that Marvel shows are being affected by the post-COVID world. Clearly, studios are slashing season runs to a miniscule few episodes by dissolving writers' room teams, all to compete with streaming giant Netflix. This sort of thing was not a problem just 3 or so years ago, but it has become obvious that studio executives are being delusional, seeing nothing but dollar signs in their vision. My theory is that Disney, Warner Bros Discovery, ParamountCBS, NBCUniversal, Amazon, and Apple all believe that Netflix's secret is oversaturating its platform with too much content. Though that is true - Netflix is very much saturated, because of this saturation however, money gets spread thin, and some projects get more money to work with than others, even if those projects turn out to be lackluster. At this point, fans can tell that a show is being rushed or a film is being mucked up with too much CGI and not enough film theory, and this is going to be a major problem with time, especially with the Writers' Strike and SAG-AFTRA Strike. Studio executives changed the model, hoping that everyone would just go along with it, but all that they did was try to fix a model that was never broken in the first place by eliminating ad revenue and classifying consumer data. Then that elimination and classification trickled down into the art. Now people only see a wet painting that is supposed to be an original van Gogh.

If this show was this mid and the studio thought this one was good enough to release week to week, I wonder how bad echo will be for them to just dump it all at once...but hey, maybe echo will benefit from the full drop and they change their playback because woof. These series are getting tedious and uninteresting/confusing as to why decision-making was what it was. Some good elements but a lot of 'ehhh...??'

What's funny is Gravik and Giah are equally matched in terms of power, but Giah seems to be more focused and figured out how to combine the right powers better than Gravik. It's all a matter of skill.

Fury be like: I don't wanna call superheroes because the Skrulls can take their powers Also Fury: Lets give Gia'h the vial with the superpowers, so she can get them when Gravik uses the machine. The way those pods were lined up with Ross and Rhodey, might point towards who was taken first. Considering Ross's reaction, i think he was taken before Rhodey. Episode 6 killed the whole show, due to that massive plothole.

Their pods kept them in a suspended state (similar to deep space travel) and protected from radiation. Once they got released though, I have no idea.

I have to say I was right about G'iah being the one to kill Gravik, after everything he took from her it just made too much sense to have this be a final battle. I was also right about not *every* Avengers DNA being composed in the Harvest as some of them are just humans with special suits or skills. But this show also has some loose ends, I really thought that Ritson would die in this episode since Ross takes over for him anyway, but the "one term" thing is probably going to be the thing that ruins him especially after Talos is his Skrull form saved his life. I will say G'iah just accepting Sonya's offer after she told her "I will use you" makes me feel like G'iah didn't learn anything which is a little frustrating.

Biggest mistake was killing off Maria Hill and Everett Ross (even if it wasn’t him). There should’ve been way more intrigue, way more tension and mistrust. Also, where the hell was Valentina Allegra Del Fontaine???? She should’ve been here instead of Sonya Whatsherface.

I think Disney + should adapt what KDramas are doing 12-14 episodes long for at least 1hr to 1hr and 20-30 mins. They keep selling them self short.

It was pretty badass to see Garik vs Giah with Super Skrull powers. I feel the series as a whole was a little empty, I wish they elaborated more on the timeline of things etc. Also Kingsley Ben-Adir acting was FANTASTIC. I guess they left alot out for later shows/movies. No post creds scene either :(

You know people think that Rhodey was replaced after Civil War, just because of the hospital gown. Well Rhodey still couldn’t walk without that brace Tony built or without his suit during Endgame. So I’m pretty sure that Rhodey was still Rhodey during Endgame. Also all the Avengers needed to go to the hospital after Endgame. So the Skrulls could have gotten him then, and the Rhodey we saw in TFAWS was a skrull. I hope this is true because if he was taken away after Civil War a lot of people are gonna be pissed.

The series was pretty cool, however I wish it was either longer and more stories were developed or definitely a film, maybe have this as a Nick Fury series and an epilogue to a film. I’d definitely keep Gravik alive too, and maybe make Rhodey a Skrull from from after the funeral for Tony.

gravik is just terrorist & outcast among the skrull empire, so him being alive won't do much but it will trigger a huge movement political movement in the empire & making characters like Dorrek I & Veranke come to the play. We haven't even seen the other 3 groups of sub specie of skrulls yet.

Probably my favourite mcu series, felt the most grounded and actually was enjoyable unlike a lot of mcu series, that last fight scene was awesome, definitely could have been longer episodes and the ending felt a bit rushed but I guess is all just setup for further expansion

I felt the same way about it having more of a homage to The Thing. It would’ve totally elevated the paranoia and twist had they did it right. Lastly, I wish the real Fury heard Gravik’s speech at the end because for the entire season, there has been this lingering strange aspect of a relationship between them and seeing Gravik finally revealed it hit a nerve, but also it wasn’t as powerful since the actual Fury wasn’t there to hear it.

I don't get how the skrulls were able to replicate Hulk's powers, because Hulk's powers are based on gamma radiation, and it said that the Skrulls were immune to radiation, so I thought that the Skrulls wouldn't be able to replicate Hulk's powers.

Bruce's DNA changed to Hulk because of the radiation might be an explanation. Skrulls don't need any radiation to activate the power, because the DNA was already mutated and a final product. I guess

@@tanthokg Are we sure that was Hulks power-up and not just Gia'h using her green Skrull arm with Cull Obisdian power, because she transformed her arm later and couldn't have had time to do so while nearly being killed by Gravik, since storing Captain Marvel and Hulks powers in the same vial (Cap Marvel and Hulk are the 2 strongest Avengers/heroes) is just stupid.

Then later on, I thought that might not necessary since it's just to keep, not for use, so mixing is not that bad. Yet I asked myself "why the hell didn't they destroy it like in She-Hulk Ep1", as they're the ones who know better than everyone how attactive superheroes DNAs are to all sorts of criminals

@@tanthokg So apparently, those weren't Hulk powers, but powers from the Abomination, but all powers in that vial were from heroes that fought in the battle of earth. However, Abomination never fought in the battle of earth, and neither did Ghost (Whos DNA was also in that vial). Episode 6 was so full of plotholes, it killed the entire show, especially since Fury kept saying he didn't want to call the superheroes because the Skrulls could steal there powers and still he gave the vial to Giah, completely destroying his own credibility and the show in the process.

What you said is becoming very true, the series format is hurting marvel. They just want to create content, but they don't want to let it grow. How can you expect people to get invested in characters and have a nice finale in 6 episodes? This series could have ended with a vicious cliffhanger , setting up things for the future, answering some questions. But nothing happened. The ending has ruined the show for me. I expected more of an intellectual finale rather than a fight fest.

Oh, hey! That's me! 😁 Talos said there's 1 million Skrulls on Earth, and we seen a TON of people in the pods towards the ending. Gotta wonder, with all of the mutant teases, will that factor into Mutants becoming more prominent throughout the next phase of the MCU? Mutants already exist, with Ms. Marvel being a Mutant and the Bangle essentially *activated* her mutant powers. This could be the key to Mutants in the MCU, the radiation from the snap, factored in with the 1 million people being hidden in the bunkers around radiation, it could have activated the latent X Gene within Humanity. As in the comics, humans always had the X-Gene within them and the potential to activate it. Just some food for thought 🤔

One thing that was mentioned countless times during the season was "false flag". What if this entire season was a false flag, and the real bad skulls are on their way, or already on Earth. The US president says "my planet" at the end. What if he's the Skrull emperor, and his plan is to take over the entire planet, but some of Fury's Skrulls almost messed things up? What if the real Secret Invasion is on the way, and we will get it as a film? That's just my wish.

In retrospect, if it weren’t for Secret Invasion & the 1st CM movie we wouldn’t have known all this time we wouldn’t have known the extent of Fury’s problems this entire time. He had way more on his agenda than just uniting the avengers. We didn’t know his aid with the skrulls wasn’t completed from CM or why he decided to leave earth & hide in space as soon as he came back from the blip. This show wasn’t perfect but we got a lot of questions answered for his actions post endgame. Then show did a good job giving us a deeper look to his past & what his real motivations were for himself and the world. Side note: IMO it was completely unfair that a lot of the Skrull problems were put solely on Fury & Talos. If I remember correctly it was the wonderful Ms Danvers who made promises to find them a new home that she didn’t keep. Where was her part of the blame at during the show? I swear this chick be poppin up when it’s beneficial for her & leaves when it’s convenient.

Personally for me I don't think it's necessarly killing the brand but more so keeping us engaged in between films. I do think for stories like secret invasion and it being a major comic book story they should of done more, Marvel needs to pick smaller stories from the comics to do disney plus shows and the bigger stories either make it a movie or a longer series.

Kingsely talking to Giah Fury was an incredible performance. He seems like such a cool dude. He had a major role in The OA season 2 and he was also incredible in that. I think Skrull Rhodey is what sets up Armor Wars. We never see War Machine the entire time here. It's possible Skrull Rhodey sold off all the suits to various other bad Skrulls around the world. Or it will have nothing to do with Skrulls. But I think it makes a lot of sense for this to be when all the Stark suits get distributed behind the scenes.

Thanks for the breakdowns brother. It was meh at the end but the actor for Gravik was tremendous it felt like everyone else needed his intensity. Overall I enjoyed it. I knew it was Gyah the whole time at the beginning but I still enjoyed the scene. I’m glad that this show was fine with violence. The headshots. The giga blast through graviks chest and all the other stuff from the other episodes

Granted yes it could have has some more MCU grand set pieces but for me this is one of there best series.

Couldn't agree more. nailed it w that take. I feel like theres a lot of talent on these shows thats either being misused or under utilized (now as we can clearly see due to the STRIKE). Its like watching a pro painter only use one or two colors, do the best w/ what they got, then have some money hungry asshole add their own edits afterwards. I hate hate hate hate HATE the idea that Bob Iger proposed (of just straight up cutting funding for all these shows and downsizing), bc its evident that the talent is being overworked, underpaid and hyper rushed. Hopefully the strike has permanent positive effects (being an audio engineer and sound designer myself) and we can see longer episodes with longer lasting seasons so that fuller stories can be told. I personally believe the pacing structure was oversaturated over the course of phase 4. I think the perfect pace would be 2 shows with 15 episode seasons (thats about 4 months of consistent content per show) and 2-3 movies per year to cap off each quarter. Just mho

I think that your ranking of the D+ shows is pretty accurate, at least for me… Loki really still stands as the best show by far, Wandavision is a close second though. I think it’s interesting how these first Marvel shows are the strongest (except for Falcon and Winter Soldier I guess), but I agree that the 6 episode format doesn’t really work. The shows take too long to get going and the wrap up is either disappointing or way too much happens at once. They should definitely rethink that and rather make 8 episodes and than also think about which character truly needs a show. Because I do think it takes away from Marvel as a whole if you keep pumping out shows about side characters that don’t really have an appeal aside from that

Good on you for getting your video out so quickly. I personally found that this show was written really well, because it gives a sense of unease, uncomfort, distrust (which were the themes of the series). I think because for so many years we have been used to MCU properties having an obvious humour, or obvious good vs bad storyline, or familiar cinematic tropes for the genre, that this show might be jarring for some viewers. If audiences sit down to watch this show 'expecting' Iron Man, or Spiderman or even Loki-type experiences they may be disappointed. I think for the same reason so many people were disappointed with Eternals. These 'different' properties are exploring possibilities of how stories within this "comic book" genre can be told, and without Marvel taking the risk in creating new ways to tell these stories, we would be sick of the copy and paste approach by now.

I appreciated the mature and darker tone but when you're gonna take a title that is a massive Avenger-level event in the comics and scale it down to this, and again I totally understand the idea of taking liberties for adaptations, but here they just took the title of the source material but gave us something that I think most fans who read the comics didn't want. In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, the story was scaled down, but the core idea of Cap vs Iron Man and registration was still there. SECRET INVASION honestly should have been an Avengers film or maybe even Captain Marvel sequel co-starring some Avengers.

IDK if this was filmed during covid, affected by lockdowns etc... but for sure it seems missing a very good part of the story in it. I had the same feeling watching Wandavision and FaTWS, were this happened. So, let's hope in Loki Season 2, but with the ongoing strike and all of this underperforming shows, I think Marvel will start to produce less and less shows, focusing just on the big projects, like was in the first 2-3 phases of the MCU.

Yes. They really need to figure out how to make Marvel movies an "event" again. The Disney + strategy fully backfired. I wouldn't be surprised to see them give up streaming programs entirely. They got some problems to solve

the show already hinted at when rhody became a skrull. he is in his hospital gown and can't walk, he would have been replaced during or after his civil war injury while in the hospital recovering

Never imagined the fire of playing Malcom X could overlap with for playing a skrulls until Kingsley's big dialogue. Between him and Olivia Coleman, the Brits delivered some dynamic characters. I want more!
