I speak with experience that secret marriages can ruin lives. My Dad just passed away and all of a sudden a women and a boy calls me and said that this women was married to my Dad. Things have gone extremely disturbed in both families. Our lives were already disturbed due to passing away of Dad and now our future is also ruined due to this new person in our lives who we never saw. I don't know if this should even be halal because this seems as an abuse of Shariah laws.

Islam made polygamy halal for difficult situations. But it only causes fitnah where there's no necessity for it. Sadly the muftis only focus on how it is halal and must be abided with, but never discuss how it ruins lives. See me getting attacked by men just because i said it isn’t an absolute necessity therefore shouldn’t be encouraged-

@@buckwheat_flower I totally agree sister. If some act is allowed (under special circumstances) doesn't mean it is a necessity. We men only know what's our right but no one talks about what are our responsibilities. This is becoming such a big disaster in our society. Our family is suffering because of some gold digger is allowed to do whatever they want by exploiting Islamic laws. I just can't believe that gold diggers not even consider bad in Islam. This can't be the true esense of the best religion of this Duniya. It's simply impossible that Islam missed this and didn't label it as a sin. Impossible

@@btgreenhouses6258 it's only a way to legitimize haram that was already going on. If your father woke up one day and decided to marry- you all would have known. It is a secret for a reason. However, i heard the law doesn’t allow this? Talk with an attorney. There's no alternative. Also, it is not permissible to marry someone else without the consent of the first wife. So in Allah's eyes, although it is halal but since you are all suffering that woman will face consequences in the akhirah. Stay very calm. Talk to elders on your mothers side. Please hire an attorney.

@@infjlogic that's the point Sir. The women was apparently married for 15 bloody years and as soon as Dad died now all of a sudden she appears to take her rights. My Dad was sick for the last 18 months and not once they showed up. Just imagine

Inappropriate intentions are the foundations of such marriages. Marriage is a very pious thing and should be held with social acceptance, atleast a definite circle who support it. Such marriages are mostly legalization of misdeeds and love affairs. The sufferer is mostly the women, but many men are trapped into such marriages by women whom they couldn't resist.

I think theres a big difference between secretively and private;y. Secretly is definately concerning, but privately is different and I would say far better than the alternative of blasting your marriage to the world and having massive events promoting all kinds of sins. A lot of people don't make a big deal out of their marriage, but doesn't mean they're hiding it or lying about it. The scenario in the video takes an extreme example. Often times, especially in asian countries, too many people get involved in marriage proposals like some random single aunt and its based on things such as looks or money rather than deen(oh I don't thing he's a good looking man so don't marry him). In that case involving too many people is just as bad. Learn to be an adult and independent. Take wisdom from the adults in your family who are close and truthworthy. Absusive and toxic parents who are failing their own marriage arent exactly reliable sources for wisdom. In the end, allah knows best. If a calamity(spouse is not good) is meant for you, there's nothing you can do about it.

We've had number of cases in the masjid, where the parents joint in on zoom calls because they don't live in the US. They had local witnesses and someone was appointed Walli, to sign the papers but the parents were able to participate remotely.

Mu’adh ibn Anas reported, That Prophet Muhammad(Sal) said, “Whoever recites the chapter ten times completely, ‘Surah al Ikhlas (Oneness), Allah will build a palace for him in Paradise. Musnad Ahmad 15183 *Forgiveness of sins* Abu Hurairah (ral) reported that Allah's Messenger (Sal) saying: 'He who recited after every prayer: SUBHANALLAH 33 times ALHAMDULILLAH 33 times ALLAHU AKBAR 33 times and completes the hundred with; LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU WHDAHU LA SHARIKA LAHU LAHUL MULKU WA LAHUL HAMDU WA HUWA 'ALA KULLI SHAI'IN QADIR, his sins will be forgiven even if these are abundant as the foam of the sea. Secret marriage is like Zina (May Allah protect us all). I believe one of the aims of Islamic way of marriage is that human beings have organized and announced sexual interactions with each other. If people don’t know who is married to whom, the two can have other secret marriages easily without anyone realizing..

Yes. Maybe the parents disapproved of the boy or girl for a spouse for their daughter or son, and the child wanted to marry against their parents' opinion so they did not tell. My sister was found by my parents at 18 yo, going out the courthouse with her husband, scorted by two of her friends from school that were witnesses. Divorced now after 20 years. PD I am not a muslim.

If a man is not man enough to stand up for you before marriage, he will not stand up for you after marriage. I understand parents sometimes make it hard. I'm not sure about the ruling for a female wali. But a man don't need a wali if he can't openly marry you, he do not deserve you.

One point mentioned that i would like to elaborate on, there is nothing wrong with the offer to marriage that has a limited visiting time, it is a halaal offer that is beautiful in it's own right. I know of a single mother who offered to be a second wife to a man, and she agreed to him only seeing her twice a year. It's nice that she knew that a little bit of halaal is better than haraam, and that is wonderful. If after marriage she wants more time, the man can make more time available, InshaAllah, but to throw away little halaal that she has for haraam is only from shaytaan.

In my understanding to even do a secret marriage without your wife to know about it is already a sin. For her not giving consent will lead for her heart and soul to be damaged. How can you find tranquility if your wife feel abused. I mean it specifically says black on white. Surah Al-Nisa Ayat 3 : If you fear you might fail to give orphan women their ˹due˺ rights ˹if you were to marry them˺, then marry other women of your choice-two, three, or four. But if you are afraid you will fail to maintain justice, then ˹content yourselves with˺ one or those ˹bondwomen˺ in your possession. This way you are less likely to commit injustice. To commit an injustice is the key sentence that circle everything. I mean it is crystal clear. Anyone having a secret second marriage is commit an haram act and that is period. We and I understand the circumstances and context about marrying several wives specially when it is addressed for orphans or a woman who has lost protection from a deceased husband and also bondwomen. Who has bondwomen today???But today this verse is used in an abusive manner and furthermore to follow ones own desires. And this is a major sin. In order for a marriage contract to be valid it should be done by the woman’s guardian or representative. The woman does not have the right to give herself in marriage, because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There is no marriage except with a guardian.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2085; al-Tirmidhi, 1101; Ibn Majah, 1881, from Abu Moosa al-Ash ‘ari. Classed as saheeh by al-Albani in Saheeh at-Tirmidhi. And he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Any woman who gets married without the permission of her guardian, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid, her marriage is invalid.” Narrated by Ahmad, 24417; Abu Dawood, 2083; at-Tirmidhi, 1102. Classed as saheeh by al-Albani in Saheeh al-Jami‘, 2709. The woman’s guardian is her father, then his father (i.e., paternal grandfather), then her son, then his son (i.e., grandson, if she has a son), then her (full) brother through her father and mother, then her brother through her father only, then their sons, then her paternal uncles, then their sons, then the ruler. The boy that I like (age 21) and I (age 23) went to a private room, he read the khutbah and called two of our mutual friends as witnesses and performed the Nikkah by asking my consent. My question is, is our Nikkah valid? are we now married?

Incorrect, marriage in English has colloquially taken on a new meaning which isn't synonymous with nikah. For example, homosexuals get married all the time. However they cannot have nikkah. If you do not understand the wisdom behind something then please try to understand before assuming the other person is at fault.
