A film by George Aistov - a monk, a philosopher and a traveler. It's the first movie of the "Following in the footsteps of the Vedic civilization". and it was shot in the Himalayas. The main heroes are Monk (Swami Avadhut), Scientist (Sahadev Prabhu) and Pilgrim (Ajita Krishna Prabhu). Together with the shooting team they went through the Himalayas to speak with the sages and to visit such holy places as the sources of Ganges and Saraswati rivers. They also met teachers of different yoga systems. And it's all intertwined with the Vedic stories about local Deities, personal talks of the search for the Truth as well as historical references and breathtaking mountain views.

Great Video, great work. Thanks. I always search on youtube for good quality himalayan travel videos, especially char dham videos. Finally I got a good quality, good narrating videos which covers most of the remote himalayan temples. Your work inspired me a lot. Iam from the southern most state (Kerala) of India.

As an indian born, i have to mention that this video is nice for having a look at the sites near himalayas, but the audio seems to be full of "local tales" which are not accurate most of the time - i mean 99% of the time. I appreciate the author's effort in putting out this documentary, but as always, remember that internet is not always accurate. These type of stories are often told by locals who are dressed and pass for a spiritual person, but in reality more than 90% of those who "look spiritual" have no clue about the deep teachings and profound statements of the vedas. I loved watching the wonderful scenery presented in this video. Thanks.

No one claims that the local saffron robed people, the narrator met were Realised masters. They are simply local people who are custodians of an ancient past & preserve their oral history, maintain & nurture the sacred sites with love & reverence. Dear Angela Marie, no need to travel to Himalayas for Realised Masters...Upanishads hold the secret. You can also read teachings of Realised Masters like Ramana Maharishi (Be As You Are)...if the 'soil' (you) are ready, the 'seed' (master in any form) will come..._/\_

Reading and listening to great teachers (who put out videos on internet) is part of the work. But more important (and difficult) is putting the teachings into practice in daily life. Most will fail in this second part of work required. Take up meditation as part of daily ritual, and contemplate on what you have read/heard. Over time, these all add upto powerful life transforming tools.

Dear Angela, The texts you read, must be first understood intellectually & then they should become 'experience'...if you are earnest & true seeker, it will happen...

The narrator, while talking about Siva says that Siva is a sign of male potency. Though God is all , Siva linga has nothing to do about Male potency. God or a realized person is above gender. Linga mean sign, symbol etc. Like there are words in Sanskrit classified as Sthree linga , Pullinga etc. Sthree means Female and Purusha means Male . So the words has nothing to do with male or female organs. So it means that which symbols a Male or a Female. Also the Linga is an oval from of a plane surface. The oval form symbolizes the universe. All know that everything in this universe is oval. The earth, orbit, planets, seeds, even the human body is oval. A human body can survise with out hand and legs. So the balance part is almose ovel in shape. Its like Siva Linga. so worshipping the Siva Linga is worship of the whole universe which includes human body. Also , the oval form is used because its the form which can conceive utmost energy and leaves out. In Siva Linga positive energy is stored and given out for the devotees. The whole video and narration is superb. its vibrates a positive confidence and spirituality.

A correction @ 48:00 ...The right connotation of the word Hindus came from - The people who lived between the Himalayas and the Indu Sagar (Indian Ocean) were called the Hindus.

+Sushil's It is a word formulated around the 5th century, religion per say did not exist before 4k years for the European society, Krishna who is 5k years old or so, spoke about not religion, but of Karma and Doings. From the doings and of the language and the location, which came around from the teachings of Krishna, when the outsiders came to India, or interacted with the people of this region and saw their faith they termed in their understanding called it a religion of Hinduism gave birth to the word "Hindu". In any religious script, Torah, Bibile, Quran, or Guru Granth Sahib, they all speak about other religions, Where as the Puranas/Upanishads have no understanding of other religions, because back then there were no other religions. Christianity and Judaism are dated to BC or 2k BC, thus a formulation of a religion. A word was articulated to bring understanding for a faith of people, who lived in a certain geographical location on this planet. But these people had no understanding of the other religions, mainly because they were not feudal, but were Karmic and completely believed if they did wrong or had ill-fated idealogy, they would suffer. During the early times around 1-3 AD, the world become feudal, and brought with it a change. In todays time, there is no leaf unturned (figuritively) because of the technology we live in and this same technology is rapidly changing the belief as we know it. But time and historical data provided in the Purana's will tell you, there was no religion, no HINDUISM, just Karma. Dont be misled with what you see in todays books which have changed History as we know it. You have access to the Purana's read it and realize. Labels are easy way of judging. But if you think away the Label and put it under an umbrella of Karma, then the whole concept changes and religion will fold under its own weight. You might understand this as "Divide and conquer"

What a deeply touching and wonderful video! Beautifully photographed, and wonderfully narrated. It is amazing that you have packed so much information in this 1 hour 22 minutes video. Many of the things you mentioned I did not know, even though I was born and raised in South India, and have studied Devanagari (Sanskrit). Some of the scenes of the snow capped Himalayan peaks stirred me deeply, and brought back fond memories of my trip to Nepal, and the mountains there: especially the Dhowlagiri mountain.
