Classic TTG. As we all know (in no small part due to your videos), flat/drained batteries are a major problem for our cars, so this is a very, very secret to share. And you can't shout too loudly about the danger of frying the ECU, should you use this method to jimp start the car.

Phew, I got away with it using another of John's life savers ! I was so pleased I had power using John's bonnet secret that I overturned the key & started the engine, but, quickly turned it off when I saw smoke coming from the engine. Nothing to do with frying mother boards fortunately, that is another story. My local bloke is fortunately a Ford fanatic so made short work of breaking into the boot and got the lock working again. The key design is apparently all Ford so that helped. I have taken to always locking the car now as my hypothesis is if you do not the computers etc think you are likely to want to make a quick getaway ( Jags were a favourite bank raid car in the UK) so keeps everything on standby, very thoughtful ?

Nice. Other cars have a dormant mode. But JAAAGS have 'Keep an eye out' mode👍👍👍

@@ToTheGarage Hi John, scrub my idea of locking the car, it remains a hypothesis! I went to check my boot lock with the key yesterday & it worked fine. My bloke said that not only was the lock full of dust etc but also had a faulty mechanism so he fabricated a new part. Am considering fitting the keyhole with a suitable rubber bung to stop further ingress as we live on a gravel road. Interestingly I initially popped the boot with the remote, and the boot lights were rather dull, but when I tried to unlock the car it threw a wobbly with flashing lights & siren for a few seconds . Left it on charge overnight & it is now much happier. Cheers

I just came back from Europe went to Spain, Germany and Italy was very disappointed.I did not see one jaguar X.K anything.

Thanks again John. I've connected my battery maintainer like this for a couple of years now. Great point about not starting the car. I've never done it, but to be honest, I've never thought about it either. Keep up the great videos.

In fairness you would probably get away with it Phil. It’s those whose battery in the boot is low or dead that are likely to die damage. All the same don’t try it😁 👍

My 05 has this black cover on the peg. Complete with a "-" symbol on it!!! It irritates me to no end they did not make this cover in RED with a "+" on it. Without knowing this it appears to be a Ground because it's black with a negative symbol on it.! I wish someone made this peg cover in RED

Just curious whether there is a need to ensure the valet parking interlock needs to be addressed if the boot won't open as described.

Good question. I dont 100% know. But I think if the battery is genuinely flat, the car will forget it was in valet mode when you bring it back to life from the under-bonnet terminals. may have ti investigate that one further

I dont think you should be able to hear the pump at all when the engine is running. (or at least I have never heard it.) mine is not even very loud when the engine is off and you just turn on the ignition So I would assume the pump is either very close to failure or the fuel level in the tank is so low that you can hear the echoing of the pump inside it as the fuel moves away in the tank on hills. Anyone else experienced this folks?

Would love to understand the physics of the frying electronics; Power surge perhaps?

@kees-tanis The normal flow of high amperage to start the car must come the battery as it was designed that way. If you power up that fuse panel right there all of that amperage is flowing into things it's not supposed to. Very similar in the way a flash flood will destroy many of your onboard computers in the car. Electricity would be flowing all over the place shorting things out.

@@centaurld6442 thank you for your reaction; I can understand wires melting if amperages are too high, however electronics take their amps based on Voltage supplied divided by their resistance. If voltage would spike, eg when a line with high current is suddenly disconnected, electronics would suffer. Just my understanding of physics, but I am basically a salesperson...
