Great point! Self securing bolts. And as we know,Even many owners wont be able to remove the bolts due to 'spinners'

When I bought my xk8 it came with a one off hand held vacuum cleaner which fitted in the glove box, no other car ever had this exta. However I decided to sell it shortly after, well after all it was only gathering dust

Another very interesting video, John! I particularly like the original sill-/bumper-style - one of the many details, that make the X100 so special! The bumper security bolts leave me a little bit perplexed...

Hello John, I found a brand new bumper in the road last week, I picked it up and it still had its protective wrapping on. I reckon it fell off the back of a lorry. Jon

Hi John, Enjoying all your videos. I currently have the rear bumperr off to do various work - it took aweek of spraying penentrating oil to get them off, so I don't think it was ever going to get stolen. However, do you know if you take off the bumper mounts can you access the rear chassis rails? I don't want to attempt this if you can't as the mounting bolts are very corroded. Thanks

Hi John, that was another secret, very interesting, I have got an XK8 Convertable 1997/Coupe XK8 1998 but both have slots sadly no box left in it, I am searching for help/hints to fit the rear parking sensors on my 1998, I have not seen any of the guys comments on rather a repair hints only, I appreciate if anyone can share some light please, incl. the accurate distance between the parking sensors holes to be drilled please>

I wonder if a screw extractor would make it easy to remove the slotted bolts... I got my.headlight washer jet stolen, anything to secure that? Hehe .

If you stripped the nuts taking the bolts out then you would have to steal another bumper, hence the security bolts.

ha..ha..that's a strange idea to secure a bumper against theft. But if it makes sense, why not.

I really like the lines of the bumper, and the rising sill bulge either side of the rear wheels. The designer keith helfet who also designed the XJ220 said its based on the sill line of the Xj220. I don't like the covered sills of the later cars, where this detail is lost

Agree David👍. I dont dislike the later style (I prefer the lack of side rubbing strips particularly) but i absolutely love the delicacy purity and finesse of the original intent Mk1 styling

Hello John I have a 1998 xk8 coupe in America and for the life of me I can’t figure out how to adjust the headlights! They are pointing down, not automatic lights. Any pointers?

Perhaps the original plan was to fit them to all the XKs but the decision was reversed and the bolts offered later as accessories. 🤔

If you have ever tried to remove the rear bumper you will know it is pretty much impossible in the current day so in a way we all have security bolts anyway.
