My Daughters and I saved forever and stayed at Pop Century last August. My oldest got kidney stones and was rushed to the Dr and bed ridden so we were stuck at the resort. Disney was out. Everyone was wonderful there. Not how we planned our trip but the resort was so good to us. Great job Pop Resort.

I was born in 1958 and worked at Pop, for 4 years as a trainer and a cashier. I loved it. It was my favorite job, EVER. I am hoping to go back. So many memories, especially from the 60's and 70's. Yes, I certainly rewound my cassette with a pen or pencil.

I love this resort so much. Uncarpeted rooms make me happy (my lungs don't appreciate carpet, especially in humid climates!) and the theming is just so fun. With Skyliner right there the prices have definitely jumped but it is still my go to resort.

LOVE the pop century! I've stayed in the 60s, 70s, and 50s (in that order). I loved the 50s - it was nice and quiet with a view of the Art of Animation resort, at least that's what my room had!

This resort is really popping! I’m glad they built Art of Animation across the lake, the view from rooms were abandoned buildings of what was supposed to be Pop Century Legendary Years, representing the other half of the 20th century. Imagine if they went with that idea and still built it. I wonder how they would’ve done the 1930s or 1940s. Luckily they reused the buildings for Art of Animation
@vanvorst19994 жыл бұрын
I noticed Chris didn't cover that as a WDW newb. 😉 Would have been interesting to see what building designs would have been used for the early half of the century.

Last year my mom and I went to Walt Disney World and stayed at Pop Century, and when I was in the early stages of planning, before I had booked the trip, I was watching your videos and watched this one and showed it to my mom and we both decided to that we wanted to stay at this one and when we were there we were in the 90's building and every time we walked past the laptop pool all my mom could see was Chris hopping around the keyboard spelling his name!!!

They didn't choose the Little Mermaid for the 80s section because she has an entire section at the sister resort, Art of Animation across the lake.
@bunniesbunniesbunnie4 жыл бұрын
that's not true at all. Art of Animation wasn't even on the table when Pop was being planned. They didn't choose Little Mermaid for the same reason the 90s doesn't have Lion King or Aladdin.
@andrewh48554 жыл бұрын
@@bunniesbunniesbunnie Actually the idea for AOA began before Pop. The Little Mermaid was reserved for that plan thus her exclusion from Pop along with the Lion King.

@@andrewh4855 This isn't true. There was an idea for something like it, but they definitely didn't have the concept until after the two travel apocalypses that sank Legendary Years.

@@bunniesbunniesbunnie An AOA style resort had been on the drawing boards for years...Little Mermaid & Lion King included. When my wife and I went it was during a "free dining" promotional period, and unfortunately with a value resort you got the quick service plan only, so we opted to splurge a little and went with a moderate resort which got us a plan that included a table service meal, yup worth every extra penny for the room. Now with a kid who want QUICK meals not nice ones, and the disney skyliner there may need to rethink my strategy next I go.

Pop Century is the hotel I've stayed at the most in WDW. I remember when I was a little kid and the magic there was of me seeing that giant Mowgli and Baloo statue and the Lady and the Tramp statue and as I grew up I was able to understand more of the stuff around there because I learned more about pop culture. Heck, this hotel even helped me with my Human Geography class when talking about diffusion of Pop Culture. Love you Pop Century.
@rebelrangerharv51914 жыл бұрын
Have you ever wondered why there are only 50 years at Pop CENTURY? Well the Art of Animation was supposed to be a continuation of Pop Century with the current day Pop Century being "Classic Years" and where the current day Art of Animation is being "Legendary years".

So this is old but I love Pop Century and Pop info. Pop was originally going to be these 5 decades, then the 00's-40's across the lake (where Art of Animation is today). Due to the massive downturn in travel post-9/11 and during the 2008 economic crash, the Legendary Years (those noted above) were put on hiatus. Then came Art of Animation. I'm pretty sure that we don't have Little Mermaid in 1980s not because of a lack of interest, but because of the fact that Hollywood Studios was still MGM. MGM had originally planned to have a very large dedicated Roger Rabbit area. This never came to be, but Pop's Classic Years area was certainly planned when the land had a hope of still coming into being. Little Mermaid was already prolific throughout the parks in 1999 if not in rides then in shows and parades and meet and greets and yadda yadda. Roger wasn't. And that's why Roger is in the 90s/80s section. Not Ariel. ...And that's also why one of the Art of Animation buildings is Little Mermaid themed. Art of Animation wasn't finished until 2012. Pop Century opened in 2003. That's almost a decade between them. I think they probably realized that if they were going to make Art of Animation, it needed to have those classic Renaissance film tie-ins and a couple of popular Pixar merchandise-sellers, too. Personally, I'm sad that Art of Animation isn't something unto itself and instead got sat where it is. I wish the Legendary years had come to pass and we'd gotten AOA somewhere else on the property as a 6th value instead.
