Hi Guys so I think I have managed to find really great resources for this upcoming year. Let me know if you have used any of this and what you liked or didn't like. Also trust me I am fully aware that he is 4 and little, he plays ALL THE TIME. My son loves reading, loves educational activities and loves learning or else I wouldn't be doing all of this. Thank you so much for this. It's very hard to find secular resources. Oddly enough, I'm a Christian, secular homeschooler. I try to keep the core subjects as secular as possible. It's always great to find moms that work so hard to find things for their kids.

I suspected that my two kiddos were gifted in different ways, my oldest is 6 is in first grade and is a visual learner, even he show talent for music, art, letters and numbers since 3, but He needed to work on his pencil grasp, so We keep Academics on his age grade but we focus on enrichment, now he read and speak English and Spanish Now the second child is 5, he’s a Auditory learner, great communicator and soccer player, so he started early kindergarten because of his good pencil grasp, he already read write and count on a 1st grade level as his brother and I can tell has been such a blessing, I save time money and sanity to have both on same grade level And this has been my motto, “never give anything to the mind that the hand can not handle “ this way you save yourself frustration they don’t get frustrated, it promotes self esteem, they love learning time, it can become a habit, lower expectations better performance… hope it helps!

I love these videos too! I have a curriculum video over on my channel as well. I am definitely looking into Explode the Code and Life of Fred for our upcoming school year so I'd love to hear more detail about those. I've never heard of WhistleFritz Spanish so I'm definitely going to look into that as well because I have just been putting my own Spanish curriculum together and that is a lot of work haha!

I'm glad you use Core Knowledge. They have the What Your Nth Grader Series Needs to Know at our library. I think it makes an excellent spine supplemented with a rigorous phonics program, a handwriting program, a separate math curriculum and complimentary read aloud. Atleast for early childhood.

This looks great. I am enjoying your videos. My youngest daughter I'm almost positive is gifted. She flew threw the core knowledge preschool part one in two months and now is on the second one and two weeks in she has finished about 6 weeks. Your videos are giving me great ideas to keep up with her. This is my second daughter and her pace is so much faster that my oldest.

Christin Cardenas oh that is awesome! We loved that program. It is crazy how different kids can be. My daughter and son are so different and with way different strengths and weaknesses.

We also love Beast Academy. It does start to get much harder. And to keep in mind, BA is a grade above its level. They do this to be on track with 8th grade as Algebra I. BA goes up to level 5 (aka 6th grade) so that if you continue their program in AOPS, it starts as a Pre-Algebra/7th grade program. It is my daughter's favorite!

Oh awesome, thanks for the info. How old is your daughter? Did you get to a point when it was too hard? In my high school plans (I know I am crazy) I think we will use aops. But obviously that is a long way away. Haha.

@@LoveLearningEveryday Lol not crazy at all! The years go quick! She is 8 but when we PS the district had her skip kinder so she will be going into 4th. She is will be finishing BA 3 and moving on to BA 5. If you want to know more about that, there is a Beast Academy Discussion Group on FB :)

oh yes I know what you mean, it has been hard to find people in real life that I can bond with but through youtube, I have found quite a few people. My daughter is 4 years old and she is doing first grade too. It is incredible how she can read do all by herself.

AMAZING!! Thank you! First time doing traditional homeschooling and it's been so hard finding secular materials. Also, I would like to recommend Woke Homeschooling and some Foreign language because it's so much easier for children to retain that information at a young age.

Thanks so much for responding. So one question I do have moving forward since we have since deciding to homeschool is that now I am researching homeschool curriculum for kindergarten and I worry my daughter will be bored with this. Since watching your videos and this one in particular.....what’s your advice on doing a 1st grade curriculum primarily and essentially skipping kindergarten curriculum? My daughter went to a private preschool last year and I just worry she will be bored. How is your son doing with the 1st grade curriculum.... are there major differences between the two grade curriculums? Hope this wasn’t too confusing of a question LOL. Love you and your channel!!!

Thanks for sharing, my daughter is very ahead as well which is why we chose to homeschool. My aunts a Prek teacher and texted me last year on the first day of school saying my then newly 3yr old already knew so much more than a Prek kid. She just turned 4 so figure this could be our first official year. We never have to register or anything but it being my true first year to follow a curriculum I wasn’t sure if i should get her harder stuff so we decided to stick with mostly Prek stuff to include the littlest one and I’m getting some kinder math etc. will see how it goes and reevaluate mid year.

That is kind of how I started, always kind of knew/suspected he was gifted just by the way he thinks/ his puzzle skills. (he could do a 100 piece puzzle before he turned three) however I didn't know how advanced he was in content area until I started reading books like what your ____ needs to know. So we started at prek and kinda zoomed through it and went throught the first part of kinder pretty quickly and now I think we are at a good spot for him, at least in most areas. So I think you are doing it perfectly. You know your kid better than anyone and you'll be able to tell if you need to go through quicker or skip things. I hope you guys have an amazing time homeschooling, it really has changed us so much for the better! Thanks for watching and commenting!

There are some cool books here that were unique pics. One thing that would be helpful as a viewer is to point the camera at a table so we can see you flip through more pages in the book. A lot of times the previews on the curriculum websites are minimal and it’s difficult to decide if it’s a good fit from a couple pages. Keep up the good work!

Hi! Loved the video and I would just love if you’d make a deep dive video regarding William & Mary curriculum! My little girl will be 4 next week, is reading at a 1st grade level and just started kindergarten level Moving Beyond the Page, which I regret spending so much on, now that I know what it is. So for 1st grade I want to switch to William & Mary. So please tell all about it!! Can you also show how you print all your material and bind it so nicely??? I’m in New Zealand and shipping from the U.S. is usually higher than the book, yikes! Thanks for the great video!! Josey

Yes I can do that! We have not done much of the william and mary curriculum yet but I can do a look through of the material. I will say it is more units than a full curriculum however in my opinion at least with my son, that could be enough. I feel like gifted kids (at least mine) are always learning so it might be enough to get your daughter interested and engaged but it won't last the whole year and you would need a separate math. The math is like a 10 lesson unit on measurement. and I use a proclick binding system and laminate the covers. I really like it. I can probably do a video in the future about it.

Im thinking in start homeschool with my 6yo and 8 yo, we are moving from Mexico to Washington state, the education is different, I think is gonna be difficult at the beginning but not imposible I’m gonna learn with them, i really like your video, this will help me so much, wish me luck.

I need a bigger budget! 😂😂😂 I'm struggling to decide what's best for my kiddo because he's so different in different areas. He's reading between 3rd and 4th grade level, but I can't seem to nail down where we should be starting in math. I need to get it in gear...we need to start in mid July and so far we've only got BYL 1. I'm considering Khan academy for math right now.

haha. yes! I think everybody feels that way. I feel like I could spend 5,000 dollars and still find some fun things to do or buy. There are just too many awesome things out there. and oh wow he is an awesome reader! Math is tricky because there are so many components of it and people seem fixated on boring arithmetic memorization. I LOVED khan academy for myself in high school and college. I used it all the time for calculus and chemistry. I haven't tried it with my son yet though, if you decide to use it, you need to let me know how you like it because I have thought about using that as well!

You might like Character First (secular character training), Book Shark (secular, literature based curriculum, even just for their book list), Moving Beyond the Page (secular, created with gifted kids in mind, even just for a few units or even their book lists), Mystery Science (fun, video based, secular), and Evan Moor Daily Geography (I like it better than the Skill Sharpeners).

We are brand new to homeschooling and struggling to find secular reviews so thank you! I'm wondering if you can give me some more information on Curiosity Chronicles. Our 2nd grader is struggling a bit and our 5th grader is very academically advanced. I'm worried this will not work for both of them and I'm trying to minimize getting separate curricula as this is all so overwhelming to a newbie!! I'd love your advice.

Ooh I've looked at curiosity chronicles. You'll have to let us know how you like it. If I got it, I would play the audio during a meal each day, just cover to cover and ignore how the rest of your history studies fit in. I'm sorry to hear that laying down the rails isn't looking too good for you.

I will let you know! I think that is what I am going to end up doing unless I can get my husband to read it with me, since it is a dialog format. Maybe eventually my son will be able to read it with me but it is over his reading level right now. The book has a lot of good pictures to accompany the dialog would you show that after or let them see the book and follow along? or just not worry about it? and I think it will still be good for me, because my habits are poor, haha. I just might be pretty selective on which habits I decide to get. so I still am happy I have it and appreciate the recommendation! Also I am sorry I haven't replyed back in chat yet, My friend and her family have been staying with us so I have been pretty preoccupied in a good way. but I have missed talking to you!

I’m watching this for my three year, she doing a mix of kindergarten and year 1 and I don’t what I want for her next year... we are looking early entry and extension through the school system atm or homeschool School at 7 where you? Wow he will be working at 4th grade level... that’s so late to start weird

Nice to see some secular curriculum seems like most is religious! I public school but have a gifted child! I try to do extra things with her because the gifted math was great but the gifted reading was kind of a joke! I see this is an old video hope he had a good year!

Oh thank you so much! We had a really good year. depending on the age of your daughter you might want to consider using Michael Clay Thompson for any Language Arts needs. We plan on using it eventually. I am just trying to get through some other curriculum first and then transition into that. It is meant for gifted learners and I think it recommends starting as early as 7 but we will most likely start before then and I think they go all the way to high school.

I love you your videos! I've been watching them for the start and it has been great! I'm not sure if it is still relevant, because the video is from a year ago. You talk about learning the math facts, I just saw a video about "Math Facts That Stick" from the Well Trained Mind on The Waldock Way ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/btV-nZSiyprcias.html ), maybe that would be a good way to see where he needs more practice to get those facts down. I hope it helps!

Subbing I'm homeschooling two gifted children one confirmed 6(7 next month) and 5yr old suspected plus my 3 year old who loves to join in also may be gifted. 1.5 yr old loves to try to destroy everything 😂 for us we keep our kids registered for the grade their age is because when they are older our state has free college for middle and high school kids so I figure more time for free college even if for now we are working 2-3 grades ahead.

Your son is gifted, does he have...issues? If so, are y'all working on that too? I don't mean to be intrusive but I see stuff like this and I wonder. "Gifted" usually means really advanced in some areas with profound deficits in other areas, that's actually why gifted kids are given an iep, so I was just wondering. None of the "gifted" people I know are functional. That is by no means a measure of everybody but it seems like the "smarter" people are the more they lack in basic social skills and suffer from behavioral problems.

I believe in this instance her son is advanced. Reading at 4 doing advanced subjects. I personally would find it weird if a child was called gifted if they had serious deficiencies. I have heard of children on the autism spectrum being gifted in some ways perhaps that is what you are referring to.

Gifted is like saying r-ist these days in that it's lost its meaning. I can't help but wince when I hear it.
