Well they are effective. I have a similar DIY set up on my back door. Last year someone tried and failed to kick in my door. Highly recommended.

I also have my radio and lights on automatic electrical switches. Mine is the brand name ABUS and actually slots into homes in the wall. It cost me almost 700$that was the downside.

I would think for aesthetic purposes attaching the bar on the opposite side would look way better. That way when the door is open the bar is hidden and depending on what door this is on that bar is an eyesore.

I would install one of these. Not to keep them out but to keep them in. I'm sick and tired of all the home invasion stories where the home owner only got one or non before they ran off. Roach motel for burglars.

It`s true that someone could break through this device, but it would buy you enough time to get you set up with your 12-gauge, .45, or whatever your weapon du jour happens to be....

If you don't have a solid core door in that frame you may as well save your money. I have seen a person kick his way through a masonite clad hollow door and just charge on through.

I have one on each exterior door. Works great. I place mine a little higher so intruder cannot kick that high. They won't get in. Buys time for police or time to grab a weapon.

You should have used a level before drilling holes. A little wax rubbed on the lag bolt would make it go in easier, acts as a lubricant.

Great idea for pre existing conditions. If the critics complain , they can build a home out of steel studs instead of wood.

Well, the very first thing IMO, that should've been done, was to make the door swing outward, so it can't be kicked in in the first place. Then add your toys...

🤷🏽‍♂️ it is ugly, not level, and the door for your bedroom is usually garbage. I bet the bottom half of the door would bust in. Even if the man of the house is ok with that the woman of the house will hate it. (Not 100% but most) I am going through every option now for my new house that we are building. Best to buy a heavy duty door and use 3 inch or longer screws on the door hardware. I ended up going with a Night lock which is mounted to the floor and had it powered coated to match the floors/door.

Only really as strong as the thread on that "pivot-point" bolt...? Not to mention that interior doors are usually hollow - and not really all that strong, anyway... Just seems like a lot of hassle for little benefit, to me. :\

wow; that wall sounds like it was sheetrock and utility knife could cut out the wall and you would have 16" by 5' hole in the wall. or you could just kick a hole in between the studs.

I'm concerned the breach may occur at the bottom right of the door or your steel flex and slide apart. Maybe holes on the bars so users can insert hitch pins.

The only thing I question is that one nut placed on the bar on the doorknob side. Is that the only thing holding that bar in place on the right?

A dead bolt top and bottom, and a bar from the floor to the knob--it is so paranoid, so how about another type of door--solid? Steel? Something? Poor thing.

Your video could use substantial improvement. In 75% of the time, all I see is the installers back. Move the camera off to the side and show the wall where the work is being done and the holes are being drilled.

Is the interior door hollow and vulnerable to being smashed in? Have you replaced the screws that hold the hinges with extra long screws?

If the door is not solid, anyone can beat a hole through the door. with a ax or ball bat.

Great concept but you can't close it from the outside. You can't use it on all of your entry doors.
