This is day 3 of extreme below-freezing temps, and ours are doing GREAT!! We're thrilled, because we were all very worried as we rarely get extreme below-freezing weather, and it rarely lasts more than a few days. Starting Thurs, temps dropped to -16C (3F) and will stay below freezing until Tuesday.
Over the last few weeks, we've worked to create and continually improve several insulated nests and little nooks like this one, that protect them from the 50km/hr wind gusts, and are thankfully warming up a bit when the sun is out. As you can see from this afternoon's clips, we even hit 0C / 32F for a few hours, and the cats were LOVING it!
And we even spotted our Bramble friend Mark waving to the camera last night when he was out in -13C putting new hand warmers into the nests so our cats had heat sources throughout the night. 😻
We're very grateful to have such wonderful property owners, caretakers and colony volunteers making sure the cats we all love so much are safe and comfortable year-round, in all weather. 💕

lol! They are all puffed up and waddling with their winter chunks. I love the little house on the prairie structure. They are so content to be together in the sun even though it's freezing. Cat colony contentedness.

Handwarmers? Why didn't I think of that? We have been warming and re-warming those 'bed buddy' neck warmers for our feral's daytime spots. I'm ashamed that I never thought of using hand warmers to tuck into their insulated winter shelters. Dang...going to go search for some right now because I know we have some somewhere here at home! Thank you!!!

Yes, I worry everyday for All animals that have to be outside in the cold! I'm from northwestern North Dakota and the air temp is -30. 😭

Took care of a feral cat in my backyard for 16 years here in Canada. I gave her large meals twice a day, built her a small wooden shelter with straw as bedding and insulation. She had no interest in living indoors with me, but would let me pet her and would sit on my lap so long as I was outdoors (refused to come in). Temperatures where I live could drop as low as -30 C and she survived 16 winters with me, never came indoors once. She died during summer of natural causes (heart simply stopped in her sleep, she passed away in her little bed outdoors). Cats are very resilient, they just need food and a simple shelter that keeps them dry and out of the wind.

This is great keeping the kitty-cats warm. Such beautiful felines and I noticed a Siamese...looked like a "Chocolate Point" to me! Thank you for taking such good care of all the cats!!

@@meow2u22 I don't think there's a male pointed cat at the Bramble. However, the gene is recessive so there could be several toms carrying it without showing it -- exactly the way Scotia did. The only way we'll know the identity of Inky/Cara's daddy is through DNA tests.

I'm sure their coats are thicker, but it's well documented that cats at the Brambles, Happy Forest, and the other colonies Tinykittens manages put on a ton of weight for the winter and lose it again in the the summer. We call it the Pudge Plan. 🤭

It’s Mark, one of the farm workers that Shelly mentioned in a FB posting - the one who makes sure the cats in the non-electrified colony (Lower?) get handwarmers in their sleeping quarters every night.
