These Peruvian artists believe that having art, customs, and folklore is necessary to have a sense of identity in a community. What are your thoughts on the art made here?

Had no idea potato and probably plaster would make a good clay material. The amount of details and patience put into these pieces is just too amazing. Although originally the 'retablos' are made for religious purposes, I feel that this form of art is also capable of delivering various other local themes. Hope this form of art is passed down through generations to come, keeping their culture intact. Great video by the way. Thanks for sharing National Geographic.

@@t-.-t. Cooked potatoes and flour mixed. If the consistency is to thick you can ad a little water. You can also make air-dry clay out of corn-starch. Check you tube for recipies. Enjoy!

I am also a craftsperson and when he says that he feels free from the weight of the world when he works, I know that feeling as well. You're "in the zone" and your brains & hands are able to let the creativity out. It's comforting to know that it feels this way for others who create.

Exemplary craftsman; .Creative men with big ideas capture on his works; each one project has a history behind. Recognized for gaining many contests. I visited his workshop it was beautiful; his design is based on the concept of the altarpiece. I recommend that you should visit his workshop if you go to Ayacucho - Peru

Great Video. The kind of Tranquil Life desired by many I'm sure. It looks so peaceful and quiet. Worship has always been in our nature, although religion is a touch subject. Quite crafty and talented to shape the clay into such an impressively detailed face. Interesting religious fact about the Spanish, I didn't know that. Cultural value is priceless, a blessing indeed growing up so close to that. I think many cultures have facts and traditions slowly waning away through technological evolution. This Culture so beautifully Captured and Illustrated by this Talented Artist. The detail is astonishing, and serve as confirmation of really intense concentration. Thanks for sharing such valuable and interesting information.

@natalia_jaira6381 5 жыл бұрын

At 7:40, when the artist states that by creating these figurines, they become representative of him being free or devoid of stress, etc. I think that the thought was incorrectly translated in the subtitling. Check your editing...
