I love unagi (eel - the fresh water variant). Fun fact: They're so delicious, that they're actually on the endangered species list. Due to this, it drove prices for this creature through the roof.

I love this scene. The humour was so good, Rin's eyes popped out when seeing the cost of top grade eel is the best! xD Nadeshiko's scared face when seeing blood from the preparation of the eel is so cute. The attention to detail of the preparation of eel is pretty much like in real life. But what's the best of this scene is the fact that the two girls kinda evens out. In the first episode of the first season, Rin helped out Nadeshiko who got lost and even offered her ramen for free when she was hungry. Here we see Nadeshiko paying for Rin's share of the order (even though it's her dad who gave the money). Both occasions had each of them worry about paying the other but in the end it's on the house.

The flying eyes reminded me of old Tom and Jerry cartoons I watched.

As for the counter seat, Nadeshiko chose it because it would be the most fresh if served closest to the counter. I know the restaurant industry, as many places have counter seats so people can watch the food being cooked and be served to them in the most fresh manner possible. Unfortunately, it's kind of hard to go to a restaurant right now, even in Japan.

The making of that eel takes hours no fooling. First you do the fillet (spike through the eye cut and fillet which I see is from the back likely this restaurant is Tokyo or the kanto region which they are known for while Osaka likes the cut from the belly which is fine just a regional thing), they take the backbone out, then while they don’t show this they make tons of micro cuts along the the meat to annihilate the bones it’s so small you don’t see them and it doesn’t show when cooked, the eel is roasted over fire depending on maker it’s charcoal or propane, then lacquered with sauce, roasted slightly to infuse with the taste of the sauce, a repeated dunkings in sauce followed by more roasting until layers form though how many depends on the chef, served over rice or noodles. The process takes like six to twelve hours. Eel is one of few foods that has to be cooked to be eaten. Eel has a toxin in there when raw but is quickly burned out by heat. Japan tends to favor the freshwater Lake Biwa eel but Florida eels have been seen lately as the demand is quite high. Eels can’t be farmed as the whole idea doesn’t work especially with their dietary needs. The aquarium trade does breed very large aggressive eels but those have their own tank or a very large million Gallon aquarium so they don’t attack anything else. Understanding food means knowing the very thing that you’re eating down to the behavior.

I completely lost it the first time I saw Rin's eyes pop out. It's so unexpected.

So I never saw this series, but I keep hearing about this because I love Non-Non Biyori and fellow Nyanpasuers are indicating that this is just as good as well. After I finish the third season of Non Non Biyori I will give this a try. Judging from this clip. I already know it's gonna be good. I mean goodness gracious them animated eels look delish.

This is the scene that made sure I had to try eel once I got to Japan. The eel skin is actually harder to split than they show the staff had to give me a spoon to split it

I've watch this clip so many times, I decided to go and try out some eel sushi. And it was... amazing. Definitely wished there was more of it, but if I decide to go out to eat with friends, I might consider trying out a meal that has eel with it.
