mister T i have learned more from you and implemented more of your commonsense approaches than from all the other pasture pros !! have you ever tried mixing fescue and crabgrass ? thank you
@runningtfarmsnc Жыл бұрын
Yes sir it works well. But will have to graze the fescue pretty short and spread crabgrass seed before grazing the fescue and graze at a high stock density. You could also lightly disk the field if you have a really strong stand of fescue. Crabgrass makes up a big part of our summer grazing.

Just curious, did you mean to misspell "Running"? Do you have any perennial grasses? How low are you forcing cattle to graze to get prussic acid issues? Have you considered adding brassicas or additional forbes to the mix to reduce the prussic acid issue?
@runningtfarmsnc2 жыл бұрын
No we didn’t mean to misspell running. Thanks for the correction. We don’t usually have any prussic acid issues with our Sudex except after a frost when we will remove the cattle from grazing it for about 10-14 days. Then it’s usually safe to graze again. We do drill a very diverse mix of brassicas forbs and legumes in our Rays crazy mix but it will not change the fact that the sorghum and sorghum Sudan will have prussic acid issues after it’s been frosted on. We do graze a lot of perennial pastures mostly fescue with a whole lot of forbs and legumes.

What is the Ray grass variety that you planted and grazing it on seed to reseed will be very helpful to producers, thank you

Usually have to reseed every 2-3 years. This is annual ryegrass not cereal rye.

How are you seeding your sorghum? drill or broadcast?
@runningtfarmsnc Жыл бұрын
We use a no till drill

@@runningtfarmsnc Thanks. Too rocky here to use one and you have a nice stand of it. I always wonder. We broadcast but not to that thickness.

What is Rays crazy mix?
@runningtfarmsnc10 ай бұрын
It’s a grazable cover crop mix offered by Southeast Agri-seeds. It comes in a summer mix and a winter mix. Around 7-8 different species in each mix. It works well.

No sir. We don’t use any herbicides at all on our farm.
