I envy you your ability to handle such strangeness. I took one trip to Phnom Penh And after a week of trying to adapt I booked a flight and came back home. I was miserable there. I'm much happier here at home working on my garden.

I was talking to a guy at dunkin donuts who was a tunnel rat in nam. How he fit in those tunnels is an amazement to me, then the booby traps, incredibly scary. He is a big boy. You didn't go shopping. According to this guy name Kyle from southern California, it is something to see. His family immigrated , so he talks about the traffic and stores. I am waiting for da nang. Also watch the wedding at Christchurch in old town, it reminded me of seeing Handel Messiah at Christmas, you can tell your ready to get home to future hubby.

Full of respect for you. You did it. Crawling through the CuChi Tunnels is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Unable to confront claustrophobia, we could not make it through the tunnels when we were there few years ago. We're trying to do it again next year.

I was lucky to see the tunnels in the late 1980s before they were renovated for foreign tourists (and when they were an hour ride thru the countryside from HCMC!) It was a real Indiana Jones experience. I went with friends and was the only one to actually go inside. Once down in the tunnels, the guide took off running and I had to follow him fast and in a hunch (low ceilings) to keep up with the light. At last he made a sharp turn on a stretch that would take us back to the surface...Light came through the shaft at the other end and as I got set to enter that length of tunnel, I realized that the walls were moving! They were heaving with big roaches.. the ones like Florida's palmetto bugs... but there was nothing to it but to gird myself up and run the last 10 meters thru there! And remember it hadn't been widened then either. Shudder! It's not only bigger now than it was, it's also sanitized and kept clean for the tourists.
