Thanks so much for all your videos! You have given me the confidence to do many home projects myself. I drilled through metal and cut my own porcelain tiles with a wet saw - things I would never have though I could do myself!

I love watching your videos!! They are very helpful and easy to understand! We are wanting to put slate tile on the backing of our stairs. Of course, we need to cut it to the length of the backing. The step is stained wood. This video really helps on knowing how to use the wet saw. The only thing I am wondering about is how to put it on the stair backing..... Do you have a video for that?

lisa heaney You're welcome, Lisa. And yes, if you follow the steps, you shouldn't have any problems with cutting slate tile.

Thanks! In other videos the person kept the saw on while backing out the blade. Does it matter?

Thanks Pierre, for your comment and your question. To answer your question: I have over the years developed a personal habit of safety while operating power tools, which is why I turn it off. Also, backing the blade out while the blade is rotating could risk a nick on a otherwise perfect cut.

Have you had issues with the slate cracking or chipping off using a wet saw? I have some cheap slat tile that I purchased and have been attempting to cut it using a 4 inch angle grinder with a diamond blade with a very low success rate because it just cracks.

mike barillet Here's the thing. You are going to have some throwaways in either case, because that's just the way slate is. I will say that I had a much higher rate of success with the wet saw, and didn't have any issues. Wet saws really do the job, they cut through tile like butter. Some slate, however, is just unsuitable to cut, period. You need to sort through the tile and set aside the ones that seem fragile.

Thank you for your quick reply and help! I guess I'll have to supplement my tile supply with better slate for the parts of the floor where I will need a lot of cuts.
