@@posthumanistpotato The limit to the FMV games was the storage capacity of the discs, and the system RAM. I played around a bit with the original ISIX Nemo that many of these were based on (Night Trap, Sewer Shark, anything later reused by Digital Pictures), and they originally ran at full screen, without all that ridiculous dithering. The Sega CD AND the 32X didn't do justice to the games. They did the best they could with the hardware they had. Want your mind blown? FMV games were far and few between up until the CD-i and Sega CD, Laserdisk games (such as Dragon's Lair) and CD-ROM systems were both prohibitively expensive, ranging from around $400 and $1000+ for either means. But basic Hi-Fi VCRs? Around $200. so that was the sole available option.

In Sweden when my family bought the Sega Mega CD 2 bundle with Mega Drive 2, we got that updated Sega Arcade Classic(incl monaco GP) + Road Avenger. Still got thouse games to this day and recently bought a Mega CD 2 aswell as a Sega MultiMega to play them again. So I have started to collect the CD games again. Still in Sweden there werent as much buzz around the Sega CD platform and not many games in gamestores to find. I think one major reason for this was because home PC took over more and more and took focus from the 16-bit consoles. Sega didn´t do much marketing in Sweden so I remember only 1 Toystore sold the Mega CD 2, and they only had 1 unit aswell which we bought. Otherwise when Playstation was released there where only sold in PC stores to begin with in my town. One year later they where everywhere in every store. So Mega CD went under the radar for alot of people here sadly, and it required Playstation and N64 to get the consoles back on track again.

I always thought Sega missed a real advantage with the Sega CD by not making more of these compilation games. They had a good library of in house games and could have even encourage other companies to make them. CD's were much cheaper than cartridges. Having cheap compilations could have help make the argument that the expensive Sega CD was worth the investment in the long run. They also could have done what Netflix did and had mail order rentals instead of the Sega Channel.
