What made the SEGA Dreamcast great? What is a GD-ROM? Is running an alternative operating system on the console worth it today? Also a quick look at one of my favorite games, Wild Metal Country.

Kudos for the well worn NetBSD t-shirt, as well as reviving the DC interest.

Thank you for watching, and also a personal thanks for all your work in the NetBSD Community . Glad to promote the project and the more unique ports. I am planning a follow-on video that expands on the first one. Stay tuned!

Can controller button-presses be interpreted by netbsd? Can it send other graphics to the vmu? Are graphics on-screen possible through framebuffer? What about sixel-graphics? What about X-windows? Has someone ported Simon Tatham's portable puzzle collection to dc+netbsd? Let's have a look at that 10/100 broadband adapter? Can you use it to ssh into a desktop machine? Maybe it's just me but i think we need a follow-up video? ;-D even if it's just to show using some terminal games... tetris? can it run Frotz? So many questions... ;-D

Thank you for the comments. OK, I am willing to put together a follow-up video. I will need to reconfigure the setup to load from the network via NFS, as the livecd will be limiting (ie: no way to install ports). I will also have to research these topics to find out the capability with graphics. It might also be a useful experiment to run Linux on the Dreamcast as a feature comparison. In other words, does Linux implement more, less, or the same? Alright, give me some time to put it together. Thank you for the suggestion.

This is really cool! If I will ever buy a dreamcast I will do this! It would be fun to see if it could run any terminal games/apps or even Xorg and a lightweight Window Manager (like Openbox or i3wm)

I was planning on using my DC as an IRC server for a few of my nerd friends to hang out and chat on. Seems like a reasonable use of it.

It could most likely be used as a graphics programming learning tool on a console although perhaps emulation is better for this purpose seeing how slow it is

Look up the specs of the systems Unix was built on. Compared to an early 1970s PDP 11 this thing is a beast! 16Megs would be the size of a HD for those. The main problem this has is it needs an HD. Other than that it pretty reasonable for an old BSD machine.

I highly recommend using the IP upload slave from Marcus Comstedt's site and running with NFS root (see NFS_BOOT_BOOTSTATIC) in options(4)) if you want to explore more.

A) in no way shape or form...or even alternate reality, was the Dreamcast competing with Jaguar. The Jaguar had been dead for over 3 years and it never really competed with anything even when Atari was around. B) Does this guy blink? Is he human?
