Never heard of this version of the console, maybe that was a good thing. I got the model 1 Genesis which I always thought was the best looking one.

I love them. The VA1 can be modded to play almost the entire SMS/Genesis library including SegaCD games using a MegaDrivePro flash cart.

A few pros to the sega genesis model 3. 1. It has one of the best mono audio output 2. It’s small and compact 3. It’s a genesis 4. That’s about it

Genesis Nomad & sega cdx were the best mega drive versions in my opinion.

Genesis didn't "fail" to Nintendo: it actually sold around the same amount of consoles as the SNES in North America, and even outsold them in Europe. It was only in Japan and Asia where the platform didn't really take off. Also they never set out to "defeat" Nintendo, but rather compete with them. And when you consider the monopoly that Nintendo held by the late '80s in North America, they were hugely successful. It wasn't until the next console generation that SEGA's fortunes began to reverse.

I had the model 2 originally but had to buy a model 3, I didn’t think it was too bad at the time but it wouldn’t work with a Game Genie!

Going against the grain here but I prefer the 3 to the 2. No it doesn't play SCD or 32X but the video output is a bit better, even on a CRT you can notice. I also like the teeny tiny footprint it has on my shelf with all my other consoles that are hooked up at once. (I'm limited on space) that and...welp the 32X is garbage and I've got no desire to have one. The SCD is okay but I can play that via other means. Model 1 though is king.

What size is that Trinitron behind you?

Maybe they could’ve made a budget Sega CD and then gave the model 3 the ability to hook up to it? Just Sega waring with Sega back then, I had no clue then Sega of America and Japan were at odds and to think the Genesis didn’t do well in Japan but did in America, think Sega of Japan be kissing our ass but instead they were arrogant asses in my opinion. at one point they was competing and in some places esp in europe dominating nintendo,in the early 90s sonic was EVERYWHERE,cereals,tins of beans,tv,BANK ADVERTS with tsb,they even sold posters,he was on the sides of buses and everywhere else. shame it went to shit.

It plays japanese imports of mega drive games, compare to model 1 and 2. Think before trashing on this console. God damn 😂

I use a model 3 every day lol Works exactly like every other model Genesis. Play Leathal Enforcers 1 and 2 all the time. Love the 32x too.

re the 32x in the uk there was a store called INDEX,in abouts 1998 i recall seeing a bunch of 32x in the bargain bin for 4.99 uk pounds per unit,nobody bought them but man....if i could go back in time and buy a few with my pocket money id flip those for 100s now lol
